Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-via
The new Edgy via driver breaks horribly; the screen is all black and I
can't C-A-BS kill X! I'm stuck and have to press the big red button.

Public bug reported:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CommonCustomizations mentions a lot of stuff
involving adding packages to gnome-app-install. The thing is, finding
anything in gnome-app-install is like strstr(haystack, needle); doubly
so when the user has no idea what the value of needle is.

I've spent approximately 10 seconds looking through it. I'm no closer
to knowing how to get MP3s to play. 20 seconds more time and I've
managed (based on prior knowledge, mind you) to find the instructions on
adding codecs to gstreamer.
There are several problems here:

interesting the link I followed is. Consider the block is:

Binary package hint: libhoard
Most applications segfault if libhoard is in LD_PRELOAD.
This has come to my attention as I am trying to reduce memory usage in
Ubuntu via a number of techniques; use of alternate allocators is a
potential component of this.

I ran glxgears first, then killed it and ran glxinfo. Just try being
mean to it for a while and see if it breaks. I think memory started
filling up and then the X server eventually got killed when it ran out
of VMA space; but that's just a guess.

I suppose. Mine's empty though, aside from 4 linux-* things that it
says I can remove. As for deborphan:

libgdk-pixbuf2
gstreamer0.10-gl
libquicktime0

A further look (deborphan -a) shows a ton of packages I installed myself
as well, which I may want to remove. Games I no longer play, -dev
packages, the fish shell.. things I have to clean up by hand, taking a
lot of copy/paste in the shell.
Amusingly, users do want to mass-remove packages they i
