Public bug reported: The LiveCDs have gotten rather huge and unruly. Noting they contain several software packages for Windows, I see a quick and dirty way to get ~14 megs back: Download some of the software. It's only 14MB, but every byte helps at this point.
The theory goes like this: Firefox, Thunderbird, and gaim all require an Internet connection to do what they're made to do. Accounting for this, these can be downloaded from their home pages or from ubuntu.com automatically; simply note that installing these software packages requires a functioning Internet connection. This has the advantage that other software such as OpenOffice.org, Battle for Wesnoth, or Nexuiz can be offered, mandating a download of the software first. This allows more software to be demonstrated from the Ubuntu CD, even though said software doesn't fit. The disadvantage is that any downloaded software has to be downloaded. Users with dial-up will have to wait a long time. :) ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Download Firefox on the LiveCD https://launchpad.net/bugs/53657 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
