Ok...more progress. Almost there...I solved the /etc/sasldb2 problem.
Still have a few small problems though. The latest log info:

Ok..i've tried both of these methods and still no dice.
Heck, I even recompiled postfix with options to point to the correct

Still, no luck and my patience is running thin here:

Hmm...I thought I had tried that. I set my /usr/lib/sasl2/smtp.conf to use

and I turned off saslauthd by shutting it down using the init script..
I just tried it again, but still receiving the same thing...
Am I missing something again?

I'm at a loss as I believe this should be possible.
I'm using RedHat 7.2 with all updates.
I'm fetching mail for two domains hosted at an ISP. Let's say the domains
are domain1 and domain2. They come into a single mailbox domain1@isp and
domain2@isp. I'm using multidrop mode to map them to local

If you managed to get in and reconfigure it, then it's moot :o)
If you're using XFree86 4
Cheers, Bill.
I have it back now. But is it the XF86Config-4 or the XF86Config file
that's important here? They both changed when I ran X configurator.

Got it, thanks!
It seems I'd only set up one res configuration, so ctr-alt + didn't do
anything.

Or just boot with "linux 3" to avoid going into graphical login,
then follow the second step below from the console.

Hi all,
For reasons I won't bore you with, I temporarily have a different (less
capable) monitor on my RH7.2 system. Foolishly, I swapped the monitor
without checking it still worked, and now I can't get a raster because the
temporary monitor can't handle the refresh frequency. (Running as a s
Thanks everyone for the help. Telnet is now working. Ugh.
I can telnet from my Linux box to my Linux box. HOWEVER, I can't telnet
from a PC to the Linux box. I get the message that the connection was
forcibly closed by remote host.
Is it a firewall thing now?

Yes.. Sorry about that. I am running RH7.2
I already had the telnet file there and setup.
So I am using xinetd to configure this but
If your /etc/xinetd.d/telnet file has a "disable = yes" line, that
service will not work. You can double check that by running "chkconfig
--list" and see what services are enabled or not, including xinetd based
services. To enable by command line, type in "chkconfig telnet on".

I am trying to run it out of xinetd. When I look at the log it doesn't
look like it is even attempting to startup the telnet server. I would
expect to see starting telnet...

ok.
I assume that you are using a RH7*.
1- Go to the /etc/xinetd.d
2- If there is not a "telnet" file then do it
3- and copy these into your "telnet" file that you have just made
