Not necessary - in my case at least. There's no physical need to have
user@domain2 come in as user@localhost.

Fetchmail in multidrop mode takes care of dumping the incoming user@domain2
to each local user depending on what's in front of the @. Sendmail is not
really involved in that. It seems to work OK.

Well, it's probably not the 'right' way to do it but who cares as long as it
works?
