I just noticed that my CD-WRITER is not working in RH-8.0, and yet it worked
fine in previous versions. My CD-ROM reader works fine. But not the Writer
and yet it is mounted in the /etc/fstab file ok.
( /dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0 )

and the ide-scsi controller second, but it may be the other way around.
About the only difference it makes is what CD will be /dev/scd0 and
/dev/scd1. The one off of controller 0 will be the first CD.

restart lilo, reboot
then load ide-scsi module like this

then a cdrecord -scanbus should show the plextor

At the cdrecord site, there are some notes on getting
ide CD-R/RW drives working. See:

Rday, send your notes to the cdrecord folks and they may
add them to the ATAPI notes!

works beautifully. 'Course you *do* have to have a scsi
adapter, so if you don't have one, you might want to try an
IDE one first, but make sure it's got a TON of buffering
ram on it first!

I tend to agree on HP, although this is just based on one bad experience
(with a probably "overused" HP7100), but what is wrong with Philips writers?

My advice would be to use the software that came with your cd-writer - those
are usually set up to do .ISO's right out of the box.
