You must be mad to run rpc.statd on a box on the internet. I'd ipchains it or remove
it if you don't use it. Once they get in via rpc.statd, they then remove the offending
entries from the log files. So either they didn't get in, or their log cleaner didn't
clean up properly.

Windows 2000).
Windows 2000 recognizes both PCI ethernet cards and their Realtek driver,
and assigns them different interrupts etc.

I am currently running RH6.1 and have just been given a tape backup unit
to use with it. It is a digital TLZ09-DB DDS drive unit hooked up through
an adaptec SCSI card. The card was correctly detcted and installed at
startup.
What commands/software do I use with a tape unit? I have looked

was no compiler all along. I got the modem working
temporarily with minicom before destroying the /dev
directory. I will fix that an try the modem again. There
seems to be a problem with the symlink...try to work through
that one.

The 3Com-USR PCI Faxmodem model 3CP5610A works in linux. It's a hardware
modem. You have to use the setserial command to allocate the /dev/ttySx

been designed to work with windows only. What they do is use some of the

linux box. I have a HP 560 which I share with
two windows computers via samba. It was simple to
set up. You can than shut down the windows computers before the job is done
printing.

Is your hub a switching hub? Could be a protocol problem getting across
the hub if you are relying on NetBios to connect to the Winbox. Is the
printer password protected. If so, it could be an encryption issue
since Win2000 uses encrypted passwords. Could you be a bit more

most tar.gz files are source packages to be compiled. you can do on most
of them:
