I have a rellay big and urgent problem. I can't restore my files! A few
days ago I made a fullbackup of my harddisk and since two days I try to
restore them. I have a HP SureStore T20i SCSI -streamer with 10GB native
space (20GB with compression ;) ). When I insert the tape and select
"restore module" he knows the tape and give me the tree of my
saved filesystem to select the files to restore. When I say finish (f) he
restores the files but something everytime goes wrong.
For example I tried to restore my /etc/passwd & /etc/shadow, he says "2
files restore, 0 warnings, 0 error" but what I get is a directory
(!) called "/etc/passwd" with owner like 64234.3245 and nothing in it and
the shadow-file completely missing.
The result also is different if I give him the tape size or only set it to
0. When I give tape size 10240 (should be the right one for a 10GB
tape) he wants the second tape inserted (and I have 2 tapes, thats
correct) then he restores with 0 errors. When I give tape size 0 he also
restores from tape 2 but with 1 error, result is the same, a directory
/etc/passwd with nothing in it.
I also tried to recreate the info file, when I then want to use this new
infofile (restore module, identifying tape, I select the the tape in the
green window) I get the message "No such file or directory while doing
getinfo call" after "searching for missing directories", whats wrong ???
I checked the logfile taper_log there all files are listed and the
checksums are ok (on the first tape). While recreating I got a
"segmentation fault", I think its because he didn't check the end of the
tape. When I make a restore with tape size 10240 I get "assume aborted
backup" after inserting the second tape and pressing ok-button taper
shows defect filenames like "lasdkf9834r3#234235708]23}7{"... (am I using
wrong tape size???).
my system is a from scratch installed redhat 6.2 including taper 6.2a (I
also tried 6.9b).

please help

Egon
