Be aware that any of the ISPs that offer DSL are actually a team--for
instance, TDS Metrocom offers your ISP services but use Ameritech to
actually provide DSL service. And this is different from location to location!
For instance, Telocity in Chicago proper, north side, uses Rhythms (not
my fave by a long shot). Other areas, they used NorthPoint, and were
affected by this particular outage. Their connectivity problems can vary
from region to region, depending on the local DSL provider. (Routing and
gateway problems, however, probably usually lie in their laps.)
So it's not enough to tout TDS Metrocom, or Telocity, or whoever--you
have to know who they're using to provide the underlying DSL service in
your area.
