I have Telocity here. The installation went smoothly and on time. The
first few weeks, up time was somewhat rocky, and there have been a couple
of episodes of strange routing problems and one episode of dropped
packets, but they have mostly been reasonably reliable since then (engage
in your favorite superstitious behavior here...). I recently received
e-mail from them noting that they had revamped their support. I'm about
3.5 miles from my telco office and I get download throughput around
800K-1.0M bps fairly consistently now (which I understand is pretty good
for that distance). I haven't really tested uploads.

They are fairly helpful to Linux users, although it's not a specialty of
the average service rep. You do get a static IP, and you don't have to do
anything fancy to set the machine up. I didn't get any Linux software
from them, but I didn't need any either. Using the 10Base-T interface
to their box (rather than USB or parallel) is highly recommended, though
(and may be required for Linux).

The alternative for me would be Bell South. They don't seem to have an
especially better reputation; they're not noticably cheaper; they don't
provide a static IP; they don't support Linux; and they have somewhat more
restrictive terms of service (and a lousy news feed).
