i have had regular and repeated problems with my telocity dsl. not limited
to but including a one day notice of a twelve hour outage. i am supposed to
have 768k/408k and have yet to see a d/l reach over 30k/s (i was told they
would have to reprovision my line if i wanted this fixed and i might be down
for two weeks). my best ping times (i know what im talking about here,
thanks) range from 80-120ms. most of the problem seems to be telocities
network in chicago, IL. 1) they have peering problems with level 13 2)
level 13 goes down a lot. i have been rerouted to chicago, thru nyc, and
back to chicago more than a half dozen times, several times i have been
routed thru kansas city, to palo alto, and back to chicago, once i was
actually routed all the way around the world, thru sadia arabia<SP>, and
back to chicago. (that was actually neat). i have been down from 5minutes
to 2 hours more than a dozen times. hold time for tech support
(18008979797) has regularly been 30 minutes. after reading all this please
consider that i have only had my dsl for two and a half months.

Jim
ps as long as they continue to credit my account for service beyond and
below what i agreed to pay for, i will not leave them.

Subject: Telocity DSL...

Hello:

I finally think I may have a DSL service in my area and
wanted to see if anyone on the list was using them. Telocity
is the service and the appear to be Linux friendly at least
their website indicates this. Has anyone had any experience
with them? I miss my old solid T-1 line from my ISP service
I used to provide so bad that I am willing to go with
anything to shake away this 56k modem crap. They are
providing the equipment for free and a static IP with
software for Linux. They say the cost is 49.95/month, no
contract. They say up to 1500 Kbps download and 128 Kbps
upload. Upload does not look good to me but since it is my
only option right now I guess it would not hurt to give them
a try unless someone here has some serious problems with
them. Dslreports.com rates them in the C to C+ category and
I see some good reviews and bad. But I can't tell if these
reviews were made by the novice or someone experienced with
broadband. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eddie Strohmier
