German is arguably just as "letter-intensive" as Spanish and Portuguese. The fact that we're making the manifesto *shorter* makes this specially complicated, since on average translations are longer for shorter English source strings. Localizers already jump through hoops to try and maintain the original meaning of those strings, and I'm afraid 140 characters will force the translations to convey a lot less information than the original copy. -- reuben
