I certainly think that we should not sacrifice any clarity, readability
or pithiness for such a goal. So I think the bar to further change for
this reason is high.

The 140-character limit, however, is also currently the limit for
identi.ca, and was chosen to be under the 160 character limit for text
messages. It's not _just_ Twitter, although they were the first.
