well, _I_ did it the hard way. I'd recommend using
http://www.qmail.org/mbox2maildir
to do the conversion en masse (did I spell that right? ;)

Hi Gordon
When you converted to courier-imap and maildirs, how did you handle the
conversion of all your old style mail files?
I'm still trying to visualize what whooping a otter's ass by 10 yards is,
but it sure sounds good.
Can you also explain what you mean about netscape. I don't use it's c

All files are valid mbox folders, according to the c-client
the client should have an option to specify the directory to look for
folders in. I don't think you can get a finer level of control.
I set mine to /home/me/mail/

I set up a Qmail/Imap Server for a small business that has been working fine.
In terms of the performance gains of the different types of mailboxes I don't
think this would be an issue with a small business though you will need to make
this call. Personally I set it up with generic Unix Style Mai

Maildir is better than that. Safe over NFS and fast access are its
benefits.

Well, it usually is not an issue of speed. The imap server, most likely
could move bytes faster than the connection iself.

listen, I really can't tell you what's wrong. I'm hoping someone who has a
clue will step in here.
When you try telnet, you should be checking you logs. If you do a
ls -ltr /var/log
the files that were updated most recently will show up last. Take a look
at them and see if you get any errors.
Charles,
I tried it and got a "Connection to Server Lost" message. I am using telnet that
comes with NT 4.0.

try this on tax152
telnet linux1 143

and what netscape uses.

My fault. I've confused even myself. Here goes:
At tax152, if I type "telnet linux1 imap" I just get the login screen.
If I'm in linux1 as a user, then type in "telnet linux1 imap", I get the
proper IMAP prompt.
Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the help.

Ok, looking at your original post, I'm a bit confused. You say that you
can
telnet linux1 imap
from the command line on tax152, but cannot from netscape on the same
machine?
seems kind of wierd. You could try using IP addresses in the hosts.allow.
Anyone else have any idea on this? Seems DN
FYI:
The command: telnet IMAPserver imap
This does not work correctly unless I am actually in the IMAP server telneting to
itself.

Charles,
Thanks for the tips. I opened a telnet session and ran
tail -f /var/log/maillog
When I set up the Netscape client as a POP3 client and check for mail, I am prompted
for my password and then I get my mail. There are added log lines in the maillog file.
However when I switch the client t
Actually I'm looking to run netscape or some other Imap client but am not
sure where to start in the whole Imap experience.
Thanks,
