It depends on what you want to do, which version of RH you use, and
which printing system you use. If you want to add differenct pcl
commands to different text files and print you can add them as
escape sequences with vi you just add them with crtl-v esc then

Have you changed the resolv.conf file by any chance ? Try pinging to
127.0.0.1 you should get back a respose to confirm the tcpip protocol is
running. If you know the ipaddress of the network printer try pinging to it.

I tried to install a HP lasejet 5 on a redhat 7,2, but
it was impossible since the redhat only will install a
postscript printer. And that doesnt work.
Search google for CUPS (common unix printer system)
and install that. Latest stable version.
That works fine for me.

I think you can choose the options in the filter choices when
you set up your printer so you would setup one spool with dublex
say 2200duplex and one as 2200single. If you want to send your
own escape sequences you really need to setup a raw spool without
the filter or with one of your own cre

/dev/lp0 (in Windows Terms) is equivalent to LPT1
/dev/lp1 == LPT2
Is your printer connected to your computer (lpt1), or through the
network (IP address), or is there a print server (hostname).

This may not help but when I had a printer problem I unconnected and
reconnected the cable and it worked fine. Actually with most problems
that involve cables like ethernets, modems, and printers I try this first.

So if I download the modutils rpm from the Rawhide section, update it in
my ISO image, and then burn the image to a CD, should this fix the problem
on an install with my updated CD?

I don't know anything about Xerox(?) printers.
And I don't know what to do about this in Linux. But my HP 720 requires an
alignment (through the proprietary Windows driver). If your's did as well,
I suppose you could install a Windows partition and run it long enough to
align the print heads an

Actually I have used hp plotter graphics to draw our letterhead it is in a
file then
to print invoices, proposals, work orders ect the my programs copy the
letterhead
to a tmp file and generate t
