It depends on what you want to do, which version of RH you use, and
which printing system you use. If you want to add differenct pcl
commands to different text files and print you can add them as
escape sequences with vi you just add them with crtl-v esc then
the command however the magic filter may interfere. 
In RH 6 I changed the ascii filter to include the escape sequences I
 wanted then I added them to the filter as /033command It was so easy.
However RH7 changed the whole filter system so as I remember with LPRng
I had to specify the filter in the print caps file I might still have
notes on what I did if you need this approach.
I have programs wich generate formated text for our business using
pcl and pgl. I use CUPS for printing now so I just use the raw option
and print from there.
