Yes, I recall reading that.  I downloaded gimp-print and cups even
before I bought the printer

I think I'll consider that my marching orders.
The main reason I held back on gimp-print was gtk.  I got unbelievably
tangled up in dependencies a year or so ago when I was installing
something that needed a particular version of gtk and have shied away
from it since then.  Also, it seems like an upgraded zlib is in my
future -- just as a security warning came out.  Oh, well...  I'll gather
up what I *think* I need, check my mail Sat morning to see if my backup
went o.k., then jump in like I had good sense.

Worst case is that I'll go buy a box of RH7.2 and start over.
