[Bug 218183] Re: Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions
When I made fdisk list my partition table, I couldn't detect any overlapping partition either. But when calculating the actual size of the partitions (by multiplying with the block size) you could see a partition overlapped another. I found a tool however, a powerful piece of software which automagically repaired my partitions. I'm sorry I give so few details, but it's has been over two months and I don't remember the site where I read about the size calculation, neither the tool I used to repaid my drives (it was a Unix tool, just download and go, didn't have to boot from it). I'll do another search tonight to look for it. Anyhow, the bug why I opened this entry for, is still present, and a new user could really mess up his hard drive without noticing... -- Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I could not find it either. Sadly no .Crash file is created, it seems more that the screensaver hangs. To provide some more information, I ran gnome-screensaver-preferences (displaying the crashing screensaver) in strace, the log is included. Detailled steps of what I did in this strace: * Launch gnome-screensaver-preferences * gnome-screensaver-preferences displays the crashing screensaver ("Vlechtwerk"), as this is the current active screensaver * The system hangs * I press CONTROL-ALT-BACKSPACE * The X server reboots 10 seconds after I have pressed the key combination However, as the strace log looks normal and the application did not crash, I ran gnome-screensaver-preferences through strace, but monitoring the strace my self. That way I was able to spot where the application hangs: *read(3, 0x8069fcc, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable) *read(3, 0x8069fcc, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable) *gettimeofday({1203409986, 844239}, NULL) = 0 *poll( at that point gnome-screensaver-preferences hangs for about 10 seconds, sometimes it proceedes a bit (to hang at a next similar occurence), sometimes it hangs forever at that piece of code. A new user, launching gparted from the gnome menu, could get seriously confused by this, and wipe out an hard drive actually containing valuable data. [Bug 217319] [NEW] [bug] cannot open search results of tracker-search-tool
Public bug reported: When I open the tracker search tool by the command line ("tracker- search-tool") or by clicking the trackerd icon in the system tray, I get a searching dialog in which I can search for files/folders, and open them on doubleclick. This works flawlessly. When I open the tracker search tool by pressing the "Search" media button on my multimedia keyboard, the application still gets opened, and I can still search for a query and acquire identical results, but I cannot open them anyway (not by double clicking, not by right clicking and selecting "Open File" or "Open Folder"). I am running tracker and tracker-search-tool 0.6.6-ubuntu3 in combination with a fully updated Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron on kernel 2.6.24-16. The shortcut of the Search media button (0xe5) is properly linked with the Search action of gnome-keybinding-properties 2.22.1 I did not know for sure wether this bug is caused by tracker-search-tool or by gnome-keybindings-properties, so I assigned it to tracker-search- tool as it's there where the bug gets to the surface. ** Affects: tracker (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: button hardy media tracker-search-tool -- [bug] cannot open search results of tracker-search-tool https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217319 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 185898] [NEW] gnome-media OSD behaves incorrectly on volume re-adjust before OSD has fully faded out.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-media I see that on Hardy Heron, the volume OSD now fades in and fades out. However, when I re-adjust the volume at the time the OSD is fading out, it doesn't fade in again, is just stops at the point I started re-adjusting the volume. So: [* Disable NumLock to activate the media keys (bug which has been reported plenty of times)] * Adjust the volume with a media button on your keyboard, so the OSD fades in * Wait untill the OSD starts fading out, but before it's faded out completely, re-adjust the volume * The OSD will stop at the point you started adjusting the volume again (which makes it badly visible) Not really a bug, but not a feature either, as the OSD is hardly visible sometimes due to this behaviour. [Bug 185896] [NEW] gnome-screensaver (and gnome-screensaver-preferences) crash upon displaying "Vlechtwerk" screensaver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver When I go to the screensaver preferences, and select the "Vlechtwerk" screensaver (couldn't find the English version of this Dutch word), gnome-screensaver-preferences crashes with no special output. Capturing the output, I only got: ** (gnome-screensaver-preferences:12193): DEBUG: Found best visual for GL: 0x21 which doesn't mean anything, because I also get this output when running other screensavers. However, only way to get out of the freeze, is hard-reset the system, or keep CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE pressed (sometimes, X can still detect this one and reboots itself). The actual screensaver viewer (gnome-screensaver, which is activated on timeout) is also affected. No other screensavers show this behaviour. I'm using gnome-screensaver 2.20.0-2ubuntu1, in combination with nvidia-glx-new 169.09+2.6.24.6-4.15 (I got this error after the recent nvidial-glx update, as well as with the previous version) ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gnome-screensaver vlechtwerk -- gnome-screensaver (and gnome-screensaver-preferences) crash upon displaying "Vlechtwerk" screensaver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185896 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 185900] [NEW] Evolution makes a "click" sound twice on certain actions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Using evolution, I stumbled upon the following strange behaviour: when the "click" sound is activated in gnome's sound preferences, most buttons act normally and correctly (which is: one click sound on each mouseclick). However, the category switching buttons (Post, Calendar, Contacts, Memo's, Tasks), which are displayed in the main windows, do make twice a click sound when you hit them. So: * Make sure the "click" sound is activated in gnome's sound preferences * Open up evolution * Hit the "Calendar" button when you are viewing your mails (1) * You will hear the click sound twice (1) You will hear the click sound only once when you hit the "Calendar" button, when you are already in the Calendar module (or Contacts, mail, ...) [Bug 441702] Re: [Dell Inc. Studio XPS 1640] suspend/resume failure
I tested a bit, and it seems that standby's initiated from closing the laptop panel work (e.g. resume correctly upon opening the panel), but when manually initiating standby by clicking through the fusa applet, the laptop will not resume (as in the screen remaining dark). In such a case the laptop refuses to respond upon several userlevel keystrokes (such as ctrl-alt-delete), but does respond when rebooting with the magic sysrq key combination. -- [Dell Inc. [Bug 445416] Re: grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR. This is a BAD idea.
I've come across the error as well, when attempting to move my setup (which includes a "master boot partition" which chainloads partition- based grub setups) from -legacy to grub2; where -legacy functioned perfectly. I however chickened out and reverted to -legacy, so I cannot comment the fact if grub2 does work at all when booting from a partition boot record. -- grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR.
