[Bug 204983] Re: gnome screensaver fade ignores mouse movement on first execution
Hi Pedro, sorry for the late reply. Intrepid does not exhibit the problem. I will do a quick install and update of Hardy on a spare partition (same machine as before) and report if the problem still exists in Hardy. If so, perhaps a backport might be in order? -- gnome screensaver fade ignores mouse movement on first execution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 199575] Re: nm unable to connect after editing wireless network profile
Hi Jayson. With a fully patched Hardy install this bug still exists as described in the initial report - using network-manager 0.6.6-0ubuntu5 and network-manager-gnome 0.6.6-0ubuntu3. Crash's posts seem to point to a possible problem with network-manager-gnome incorrectly reading, setting or manipulating the stored keys in system/networking/wireless/networks/. I think the issue is related specifically to network-manager-gnome, but I can't offer any additional info without debugging assistance from the launchpad team. As a point of reference, the combination of network- manager 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1.8.10.1 and network-manager- gnome v0.7~~svn20081020t000444ubuntu1 as deployed on a fully patched Intrepid system work as expected. -- nm unable to connect after editing wireless network profile https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 235419] Re: issue with Hardy USB-serial/hal and Edgeport /2c
Having now used Intrepid for a while I'm guessing that this problem may be either missing/incorrect firmware download or wrong device identification. The device functions correctly under Intrepid, the lsusb device id remains constant between the two releases (1608:021b). There was some (possibly related) kernel 2.6.26 discussion at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=480195 - not sure if this is relevant to the 2.6.24 series as used in Hardy. -- issue with Hardy USB-serial/hal and Edgeport /2c https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235419 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal Regression from Gutsy, Edgeport/2c no longer functions correctly with Hardy. This device previously worked perfectly with Gutsy. [Bug 205761] [NEW] [hardy beta] thinkpad contrast/brightness issue
Public bug reported: fresh install of Hardy beta on an IBM TP R51. display contrast/brightness keys function improperly. specifically, attempting to lower contrast via fn+end results in OSD applet and hardware lowering of contrast - yay! attempting to raise contrast via fn+home results in only hardware raising of contrast - very 'not'-yay!) the applet never seems to see the keypress or read the current hardware brightness value. attempting to again lower the contrast seems to result in the setting of the hardware brightness level to whatever the previous 'low' value was. in other words if you lower contrast all the way down, then raise contrast all the way up then simply lower the contrast again by one level, the actual result is that the contrast reverts to the lowest level possible. This is a change from the entire hardy alpha series which seemed to function properly. additionally, if I force compiz on I notice that I no longer get the compiz style contrast OSD, its always the regular non-compiz OSD. hope this rambling report makes sense! ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [hardy beta] thinkpad contrast/brightness issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 199575] [NEW] nm unable to connect after editing wireless network profile
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Using Hardy Alpha 6 on an IBM TP R51 with intel 2200 mini-pci wireless adapter and network-manager.gnome v0.6.6-0ubuntu1. All updates applied as of 7th Mar 2008 @ 1:19 (EDT) Initially allowing automatic creation of the profile by nm to a linksys wap55ag (current linksys firmware) results in a blank "Type" field in the properties dialog for the stored wlan profile (as viewed via the nm wireless network editor). Changing this field from its initial blank value to "Automatic" or "AES-CCMP" and attempting an ap re-associated appears to result in an inactive TP intel 2200 radio interface (no hardware wlan led activity and no ap association). Deleting the wlan profile and allowing nm to re-detect the wlan appears to correct the problem, however any additional editing of the profile "Type" field results in the same issue, requiring deletion of the profile and auto- detection. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nm unable to connect after editing wireless network profile https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 520643] [NEW] Enabling NTP via Gnome "Time and Date" applet causes PC to abruptly power off
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools Fresh install of Live daily (2010.02.11) with all updates applied. Only change to system is a custom (and very minimal) xorg.conf to correct xorg auto-configuration breakage. 1) System->Administration->Time and Date 2) Authenticate in applet window to allow changes 3) Select "Keep synchronized with Internet Servers" 4) Authenticate for the package install 5) PC will abruptly power-off(!) after package installation and while displaying the "Enabling NTP" notification I am consistently able to reproduce this on fresh installs. Restarting the PC after power-off appears to make the issue inconsistently reproducible, and continuing to play with the NTP via the Time and Date applet eventually seems to make things behave properly. Issuing "apt- get remove --purge ntp" and then starting at step 1 after and initial failure seems to result in inconsistent failure, sometimes powering off the machine after attempting to select the time server(s) you wish to use and sometimes working perfectly on the first attempt. However, If it does fail with this method, the issue seems to self correct after repeated attempts. The PC has not (yet) displayed this issue if I install ntp using apt-get from the shell. [Bug 459705] Re: Consolekit / Policykit interaction with indicator-applet-session produces unexpected results
Still experiencing this with Lucid daily live (built on 2010.02.13) - fully patched as of 2010.02.19, with the following caveats... 1) An active VTY session using the same account as used for the GDM login will *not* stop shutdown. The VTY is simply crushed during shutdown. 2) An active VTY session with a different active login (e.g. an "sudo su") will prompt for credentials, but results in the behavior described in the original post (i.e. X session is killed). 3) A terminal window via Gnome (even a terminal window with an active "sudo su" login) will *not* stop shutdown. While I am ambivalent as to the correct handling of extra logins via Gnome (e.g. terminal "sudo su") I feel pretty strongly about VTY logins. Any VTY login, either same user or different user (e.g. via "sudo su"), should prompt the Gnome user requesting the shutdown for authorization to proceed. A user sophisticated enough to initiate a VTY login can cleanly take care of the issue when notified of multiple logins on shutdown. I think there is a case to be made for consistent action with Gnome terminal logins as well (specifically terminals logged in as an alternate user) but I *do* want my desktop to shutdown when requested, without jumping through hoops. Opinions on this will vary I'm sure. I have not tested this via telnet, ssh, etc - only from the VTYs *However*, the killing of the X session on cancel remains a serious problem in any scenario. -- Consolekit / Policykit interaction with indicator-applet-session produces unexpected results https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459705 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Boniek, as indicated in post #8, this bug was still unresolved as of network-manager 0.6.6-0ubuntu5 and network-manager-gnome 0.6.6-0ubuntu3. Taking a look at the change logs for the various packages in Hardy I don't see any indication that this issue has been addressed and I can only assume that the 'fix' is an upgrade from the Hardy LTS release to Intrepid (or greater). This bug was left open due to the LTS status of Hardy, and the fact that it may not have been addressed. Until this issue is corrected (or resolved by a "Won't fix") I'd suggest that it be left open. Unfortunately (for this bug) I am no longer using Hardy and I am unable to confirm the actual status of this bug. Hi Sebastian, there was no crash report included because there was no crash report produced. Not really sure what to do with this particular bug... I would pass it upstream, but I can't really verify that it's not Ubuntu specific as I'm exclusively testing Lucid (as delivered via nightlies and official Canonical package updates) right now. Let me know what else you might need me to do on this to either dismiss this issue or focus attention on it. Hi Tim, sorry to say this but... "glad I'm not the only one experiencing this issue". Are you also getting intermittent password rejection, despite the fact that privs seem to get elevated after after the initial password entry? [Bug 433925] Re: Karmic livecd wont boot due to graphics card not working with opensource nvidia drivers
@TIm: I have had the same issue with all recent (last four?) Ubuntu releases on my older PNY 6800GT. If you boot and wait, you will notice that the X display seems to re-initialize itself at regular intervals (every 2-3 minutes iirc). You can try and switch to a VT as the display tries to re-init (hit ctrl-alt-f1 mercilessly). This has worked for me in the past. These days I usually just bypass X on first boot and make a suitable 'vesa' xorg.conf by hand, then install the evil nvidia binaries after X gets going. [Bug 439294] [NEW] update-manager ignores elevated privileges on attempted installation of updates
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager This appears to be an intermittent issue and I cannot seem to reliably reproduce it. However... Upon attempting to install available updates and authenticating via the update-manager password dialogue, the password will be re-requested repeatedly, despite Gnome panel indicating elevated privileges for the application have been granted. [Bug 436852] Re: update-manager does not focus password dialogue box
Prior to the latest round of updates I was also still experiencing this on a metacity based test box. With the latest updates it appears that auth. has been reverted to system modal. While I actually prefer the window modal method of authentication, I'm not complaining, either way is fine. Consistency of operation is far more important to me (and I suspect other users as well). If the Policykit discussion https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596260 gets sorted out then my preference is window modal, but until then I'm quite happy with the revert to system modal. [Bug 459705] [NEW] Policykit interaction with indicator-applet-session produces unexpected results
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-applet Expected result: Shutting down or rebooting via the indicator-applet-session applet with other users logged into the system should either produce the expected action or return the state to its prior state on authentication failure or cancelation. Actual result: Shutting down or rebooting via the indicator-applet-session applet with other users logged into the system will result in a policykit dialogue after the user has approved the selection action via the indicator-applet-session applet dialogue. If the user cancels the policykit action (perhaps due to the previously unknown login) the current users' X session will be dumped and restarted - an unsuspecting user might consider this a rather naughty and unexpected action. Steps to reproduce: 1) Login to two sessions (one X session and one VTY session) 2) Select Shut Down or Restart from the indicator-applet-session applet menu 3) Approve the selected action from the indicator-applet-session applet dialogue box 4) Select Cancel at the following policykit dialogue box 5) Behold as your X session is terminated with extreme prejudice Possible solutions: 1) Inform the user of additional logins and request authorization with via policykit *before* obtaining approval via the indicator-applet-session applet dialogue box. 2) Integrate policykit user notification/authentication and indicator-applet-session notification/authorization into one dialogue. 3) Don't end the current X session, but instead return control of the current X session back to the user so that he/she can investigate the situation. [Bug 723990] Re: Natty A2 Install stuck in endless loop
Without delving into this issue very deeply at all, I can say that it appears to be consistently reproducible on my test box (real hardware) if these are any pre-existing partitions on the target drive. When I make use of an unpartitoned drive (with or without an existing MBR + empty partition table) Natty Alpha3 will install fine. However any pre- existing partitions on the target drive will hang the partitioner. I primarily use the alternate iso, however I seem to get similar results on the desktop iso as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723990 Title: Natty A2 Install stuck in endless loop -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives "no device media found"
Wow, pretty disappointing that Ubuntu is unable to correctly deal with a real floppy controller and phantom device properly. ...But that useless "Floppy Drive" entry in Nautilus sure looks spiffy and well polished - and that's what counts, right? Yes, I fully understand the above comment was "unhelpful", but honestly, when floppy drive media cannot be properly mounted from the GUI in an OS circa 2011, it makes me feel less than "helpful". Of the 10 machines active on my network right now, 9 of them have built-in floppy drives. Admittedly, 6 of those are CLI only servers, but if I wanted a CLI centric UI on my desktop boxes, I would not have installed Ubuntu on them. *sigh* -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441835 Title: Clicking on floppy gives "no device media found" -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 723990] Re: Natty A2 Install stuck in endless loop
@Niels Egberts: Agreed. For me at least, the issue appears to have been multiple unformatted partitions that I keep as placeholders for a particular partitioning scheme.
