Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager
update-manager becomes unresponsive after waiting for an extended period at the password dialogue. 1) start update-manager. 2) select "Install Updates" to start the update process for outstanding updates. 3) go make a sandwich. 4) come back to behold the following error... "Task cannot be monitored or controlled: The connection to the daemon was lost. Most likely the background daemon crashed." Generally seems to happen within 5 to 10 minutes of idling at the password dialogue.
