Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver
1) Ensure that your desktop is set to invoke the screensaver on idle 2) Set your idle time to a nice low value (but any value will work) 3) Open any panel menu and leave it open 4) Wait for the idle timer to expire (the screensaver will not be invoked so you may wish to time it) 5) Click on any part of the desktop to close the menu Only then will the screensaver be invoked, and the initial fade cannot be canceled by mouse or keyboard activity - which in this case may be a very good thing for those that expect their session to be protected by an away auto-lock.
