Recently I have performed a clean install of Hardy (initially I upgraded).
It pleases me to indicate that now bluetooth is working as it should.

I have -- as instructed -- installed the package and started Evolution under
gdb.
However ... the crashes do no longer occur anymore. Also my preferences screen
pops up normally as it used to.
I am not sure but maybe an upgrade this weekend has solved the issue.

I have compared the situation with my Feisty installation (which I have
running in a VirtualBox VM) and noticed the following:
In Feisty I do not have this issue, but there is a difference in the
/etc/environment file.
In Edgy the following is stated:
LANG="en_AU.UTF-8"
LANGUAGE="en_AU:en"
While
I have tried to eliminate the problem by altering the /etc/environment file.
In my Edgy installation I have changed the file so it looked exactly the same
as the one in the Feisty installation.
After restart, the calculator still behaved the same (with "confused buttons")
So I re-installed Gcalcto
This is as I would have expected, just wanted to make sure that you were aware
of the fact that I did use a Virtual Machine.
Nevertheless, thank you for confirming.

Have installed lucid today on a separate partition (ext4) on a Dell Dimension
that runs karmic as a main distro.

Basically I can only confirm wat has been posted recently.
IMHO the "i915.modeset=0" option added gives me more headaches than WITHOUT.
Without the option I have currently 1 or 2 hard crashes a day, which is not
pleasant but I can live with it since my desktop is not my "production" machine.

Since there has been several updates since I reported this I like to update the
status.

Unfortunately Ubuntu does no longer use inittab and I know to little on how to
control the startup order.

I have tried to run (I suppose from a terminal) 'ubuntu-bug 529191' but then a
window pops up indicating:
"The specified process ID does not belong to a program."

What does work is running 'ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel' and this does
create a report.
However, I do not know how to attach this information to this existing bug
report.
