I started testing and it looks like the problem might potentially be in the
headers package. Here's what I did.
1. disinstalled (sudo apt-get purge) kernel version v6. ONLY
linux-image-3.2.0-25-generic!
2. installed v1. Manual boot: boots fine. Automatic (i.e.: using grub men
I think that we need a new start, AS IF WE DIDN'T DO ANY TEST BEFORE.
Probably I made some mistakes (sorry!) in previous tests, thinking that
installing headers was simply done by installing (and not previously
deinstalling old version) a newer version on top of the old one. The
following results

different kernel version (always 3.something, sorry, I dont' exactly remember).
The only solution that worked was to boot with kernel 2.something.
After a couple of kernel version updates, everything worked well again as i

I finally succeded... :)
Kernel 3.2.0-26 is installed and acts EXACTLY as -25: system hangs and
caps lock key starts flashing.
But... at least I can provide more info!
I made the mistake to try to boot -25 and... I could see the crash log. I have

Ok. Just for anybody else information, I tried the following kernel
versions:
2.6.32-32: same as 3.2.0-25 (panic).
2.6.35-30: no panic, but no kernel found. It is possible to go back to grub2
menu and choose a different kernel version to boot.
2.6.38-8: boot ok, but no wifi network. Probably a di
v2 version doesn't boot, exactly as release and V1 version. Sorry for

A strange new symptom with V4: grub fails, thus at boot I can only see the
"grub>" prompt with only minimal BASH-like line editing support. I have
manually booted v24 and I'm here back again to help with testing. I won't touch

Yes, it works. I'm sure that I used "sudo update-grub" after installing
v4 of kernel. And... yes, I did not see the menu of grub2. But, loading
manually 3.2.0-24 and running again "sudo update-grub" resulted in full
restore of grub2 functionality.
Moreover, V4 boots. I'm using it, right now.
How
V5 boots correctly and installs correctly as well (do you know if I can
use any command to determine if I'm running v4 or v5? uname stops info
at main release numbers).
So, a small resumee of the situation:
V1, V2, V3 and the officially released version of kernel 3.2.0-25 do not

both in the "first repair" mode and in the "second repair". No boot. :(
