I have the same problem with lucid 2.6.32-23. The drive will read
data CDs, but audio CDs are not recognized. This was not a
problem in Hardy and it isn't a problem when I dual boot to
another OS.

I have duplicated this running the live CD on

Upgraded from Heron to Intrepid via Update Manager and
Intrepid did not recognize graphics card:
ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY.
So not r300 chip set and also no proprietary drivers in use.
I've run feisty, gibbon, Heron Alpha, Beta, LTS, without
problems.
Had to reinstall Heron, and will not try Intr
Intrepid had problems with network cards -- I had to
a mess with one computer and didn't want to
risk it. So Ignored this. And in any case, why
should I try it in Intrepid when I want it to work
in LTS. Suspend still doesn;t work, but I just
don't use it. You just learn to live with the
bugs.
The bug is not fixed yet except to disable the driver.
I just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 beta using update
manager and the the card on a HP dc7800 was
disabled.
One problem with this is that once upgraded, you
have no connection to the internet to get fixes.
Had to do a fresh reinstall 8.04. I u
Spork is right, but still there is something odd that happens.
No new addresses are added when you browse with 0, and
the ones that show up when you go back to 12 are sites I
visited a long time ago. The whole thing is strange.

My reasoning was that this wasn't a fix really but a coincidence that
it now worked for gary with an upgrade. The problem he mentioned
was that there is an unhelpful message to average users when there
is a problem with the gnome sound recorder, and from my experience,
there often are problems
I get the same message in Hardy 6 on a Dell C610 laptop
as I do in Gutsy on a Desktop and nothing I do seems to
make it work, although the Gnome sound recorder worked
in Feisty. The strange thing is that the mic works when using
Skype.

I had similar problems with earlier builds, but the most recent build
of alpha-5 (Feb.22) partitioned, formatted and installed without a hitch.

Installed using the most recent build of the LiveCD (Feb.22) on a dual boot
system with manual partitioning and did not run into this problem. Are you
sure you did not have the format box checked for the NTFS partition?

Please try one of the later builds. I also had a problem with an
earlier build, but now cannot remember which one. You
used 2.6.24-5 and I did not have a problem with 24-7 or
the most recent 24-8.

I am assuming that you have checked manual partition and
now you are looking at the window with a list of the
partitions. When you highlight a partition, you see a
menu on the bottom of the window and one of the
buttons is for editing the partition, setting mount points,

On a Dell C610 running Hardy Alpha5 the dimmer works on AC,
but not on battery. I assume that's how it's designed.
On AC it indicates that it dims from 100% to 0%, but this is
not quite right. The lowest setting (0%) does not blank the
screen, but puts it at where the screen is on battery power.

I cannot confirm this on a Dell C610 running Hardy Alpha 5 (and
in Gutsy this also worked).
Maybe this is relevant. I used to think hibernate did not work because
the keys were dead. But pressing the power button (and not holding
it down as for a reboot) powered the computer on. I did get the

Trying to confirm this on Hardy Alpha 5 on a laptop C610.
Suspend requires that the lid be closed after suspend.
Reopening the lid will activate it. It is true that the keys
are dead after suspend before you close the lid. I
don't think this is a bug, but just how suspend is designed.
