Hallo,
Upon installing RH 7.0, I went straight to rp3
and set up my PPP connection. It seemed to all go fine, and I booted up Red Hats

nothing happens.

Try to put this in your /etc/conf.modules file:
# let modprobe find the ppp modules
alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate
Hope this helps.

I continue to tear out my hair due to the problems getting ppp to work
on 6.0.
I configured the files and was able to get a good connection one time
only.
I spoke to my ISP who is very cool and he confirmed that I was making
the connection. However, he couldn't ping me while I was connected

Not exactly what your asking, but why not bind "/sbin/ifup ppp0"

Hi,
I just upgraded to 6.1 from 6.0. I'm having troubles dialing out
through my modem. I could dial out fine under 6.0, using usernet. Now
usernet hangs. I went into control-panel as root, and tried to activate
the ppp0 interface. But I get an error message saying:

Hi Zaigui
I'm really not sure how to describe this in more detail, but I'll
try.
Start the program linuxconf. It can run in text mode, or with a
gui. Either way, navigate to
Config -> Networking -> Client Tasks -> PPP/SLIP/PLIP.
if you have an ppp0 entry, delete it.

Believe it or not, this is probably the simplest PPP scenario. The easiest
way to this would be to go into linuxconf, delete your existing ppp0
inetrface, and start a new one from scratch. From there, it's pretty much
like setting up a dialup connection in windows. Just say you want to use

I am trying to connect to my ISP using PPP. They require use of PAP. When I

how far as I get. Here is what I am getting from /var/log/messages:

Thank you all so much for bearing with me this weekend as I tried to get

Okay, I've had this problem for months, seemingly corresponding with the
2.2 kernels. Started out in SuSE, now RH 6.1. I did _not_ have it with 2.0
kernels, nor with earlier RHs like 4.2.
With PPP, I dial out and connect to my ISP (Concentric). All seems okay. I

I am having a strange problem with my ppp link.
Sometimes, the data rate from my ISP to my computer is really slow to

I have a 33k modem on a dialup connection.

Linux 2.0.33 kernel, RH5.0, pppd 2.3.3
Hardware:

to Netscape. Thanks also for the recommendations on mail programs. Windows
is still my primary OS, but this may be useful info later in my process of

Without being able to guarantee it, I think your problem is that under
UNIX/Linux you have
