Sometime ago I posted a question (many questions, in fact) about getting
ppp up and running. Several people, including Michael Jinks, gave advice.
I have been struggling to make sense of the various docs (including PPP
HOWTO, ppp tips, ISP Connectivity HOWTO, etc, etc) without success.
Today I decided to take a look at the Caldera Lite CD that came with SO4,
with a view to installing the Crisp Lite editor. Broswing through the rpms
I came across xisp, it looked interesting so installed it.
It is a front end to all those config files I had been try to get set up.
It is also a dialler. The whole thing is a bit like the Injoy pgm I use
with OS/2. The upshot is that I can now access the Internet using
Netscape. I haven't got NS set up yet to access my mail or news, keeps
telling me it doesn't recognise the mail or news server info I give it.
So FWIW if any other newbies are having problems configuring ppp give xisp
a try. Don't know where to get it on the net but I shall be looking for an
update as most of the pgms on the Caldera CD seem to be a version behind
RH5. It need the Xforms package before it installed but other than that it
has proved to be a simple task.
