this is still a PAP issue. Where is Ramon Gandia[1] when you need
him. mutter.mutter. Ok, I'm guessing you didn't completely remove the
existing ppp0 interface right? You probably want to delete the scripting
steps in the ppp definition. I would start from scratch if you did no
already.

B.T.W. this error is documented in the PPP HOWT0, just search for 8 bit
clean (section 18.3 on RH6.1). You can go through those options, but
believe me, it is simpler than that. if you can access that dialup
account through windows with no scripting, then you can do so under linux.
