I'm a newbie. Afte a lot of trouble to make my modem work in
Linux (RH 5.0), I finally got it. However, I'm unable to establish any
kind of PPP connection with my ISP at all. Here is the info I have
gathered:

I set up and configure my PPP connection through the Control Panel, and
my system does dial out and actually conects to the ISP line. Yet, I
receive no reply whatsoever when I ping any DNS or IP address. Then, I
decided to try to establish a connection through Minicom, because I
figure at least it would show me some sort of error message or
something. Well, I guess I wasn't completely wrong. I dial my ISP and
get the following succession of events right after I type my username
and password:

Entering PPP mode

Asyn interface is unnumbered (loopback1)

Your IP address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (actual number, of course). MTU is
1500 bytes.

Garbled text... (pause)

No carrier

Any ideas? I called my ISP and they couldn't provide me much info (it's
one of the telcos; yeah, I suppose I deserve it, but it's cheap: I get
the access through the U). One more thing: I can use minicom to connect
to the local library and BBS no problem.

Thanks in advance.
