[Bug 282207] Re: NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection
The settings in the NetworkManager UI seem to be correct ISP.CINGULAR as the proper access point. However, this part of the log leads me to the assumption Network Manager does not properly set it. that problem seems to be similar to the bug described in #279197. bug also still persists with latest NM version: apt-cache policy network-manager network-manager: Installed: 0.7~~svn20081015t024626-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 0.7~~svn20081015t024626-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 0.7~~svn20081015t024626-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status -- NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282207 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 282207] Re: NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection
I made an interesting observation here. Aircard creates three USB serial ports when its driver gets loaded by the kernel. /dev/ttyUSB1 does not work with any of the AT commands at all (returns nothing) /dev/ttyUSB2 seems to work fully and gives the following output: AT OK AT+CGDCONT? +CGDCONT: 1,"IP","ISP.CINGULAR","",0,0 +CGDCONT: 16,"IP","isp.cingular","",0,0 OK AT+CGDCONT=? +CGDCONT: (1-16),"IP",,,(0,1),(0,1) +CGDCONT: (1-16),"PPP",,,(0,1),(0,1) it is possible to directly dial without (re)setting the AP ATD*99# CONNECT /dev/ttyUSB0 partially works: (local echo needs to be activated) AT OK AT+CGDCONT? ERROR AT+CGDCONT=? ERROR however, its possible to set the AP manually and dial AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","ISP.CINGULAR" OK ATD*99# CONNECT Network Manager seems to use /dev/ttyUSB0 by default which could be a reasons things do not work. -- NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282207 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 282207] Re: NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection
some more research: /dev/ttyUSB2: AT+CGDCONT=1, "IP", "ISP.CINGULAR" OK AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","ISP.CINGULAR" OK /dev/ttyUSB0: AT+CGDCONT=1, "IP", "ISP.CINGULAR" ERROR AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","ISP.CINGULAR" OK set_apn() in nm-gsm-device.c (#216) executes that command with white spaces, which would work for /dev/ttyUSB2 but not for /dev/ttyUSB0. Removing those white spaces in set_apn() fixes the problem, however, I am not sure if the white spaces are required for something else / some other devices. As HAL is telling us that /dev/ttyUSB0 is the modem and not /dev/ttyUSB2 I assume either this is a HAL bug or something else I don't know/understand. [Bug 282207] Re: NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection
more research: I changed the hal definition for the Sierra Aircard 881 (10-modem.fdi) so that the modem capability points to /dev/ttyUSB2 instead of /dev/ttyUSB0. Tried with unpatched NetworkManager. The connection got initiated but immediately after the modem hung up. Who knows why ... Giving up now and keeping the patched NetworkManager as described in the earlier message. -- NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282207 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282207] Re: [Sierra] NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection
Look at my patch from 10/18, its doing the same and fixes the problem, I am using network-manager since then successfully with my AT&T Sierra Aircard 881. I agree with you, its now the most important thing to get this into Intrepid, especially because this is one of the main laptop cards AT&T delivers with its data plans. However, at a later point of time it should be analyzed what ttyUSB2 is for. Using ttyUSB2 in the Sierra scripts works just fine, also with spaces in the AT command. -- [Sierra] NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282207 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 47775] Re: [dapper] xrandr freezes the system (radeon, MergedFB)
I experience the same problems, but I am not sure if it has something to do with multi-heading. Like one of the posters before also stated, my X freeze problems begun shortly before Dapper was released as final in the end of May 2006. Since this time I get occasional freezes at least one time a day. I have an Thinkpad X31 with a Mobility Radeon M6 and use the "radeon" driver with no multi-head set up .. Re: [Bug 90043] Re: nautilus/scim conflicts on feisty
Hi guys, I just had a fresh install of feisty on a new PC, and the problem cannot be reproduced by the steps I provided before. But still you can reproduce it by the following steps: 1. Open a terminal and run "im-switch -s scim_xim". This way you set xim to the default. 2. Logout and login. 3. Open nautilus, try to rename any file/folder, or press Ctrl-L to bring out the location bar and type anything you want, then you'll find the problem. BTW, I never had this kind of problem on Debian etch/sid either. Also if I just use the default settings of scim, I had problems entering Chinese in firefox sometimes, typically in a gmail chat box when trying to type a series of Chinese characters. [Bug 90043] Re: nautilus/scim conflicts on feisty
I tried shift_space, which is another shortcut, and the problem remains. Okay I think I found how this problem comes around. This problem is highly CJK-related. In short, if environmental variable GTK_IM_MODULE is set to xim, the problem occurs, if it is set to scim, the problem disappears. Here is the simplified steps to verify the problem: 1. Open nautilus, press Ctrl+L to bring out the location bar, and right click in the location bar, find the "Input Methods" submenu, select "XIM". Now press Ctrl_Space or any shortcut to invoke scim, and you should be able to do so, because this problem doesn't exist in the location bar, but this way you set nautilus to use XIM. 2. Right click on a file/directory, choose "Rename", then press ctrl+space to invoke scim, now you should see the problem. So, by default the problem doesn't exist; but it would still be a problem to many CJK users, since many of them would do "im-switch -s scim_xim", because this way env variables GTK_IM_MODULE and QT_IM_MODULE are set to xim, and is more compatible, for example, you don't have to mannually install scim-qtimm to input Chinese in QT programs, and Skype won't crash. I'd really suggest the scim maintainer to adjust the symlink /etc/alternatives/xinput-zh_CN to point to /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim_xim instead of /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim as default. It would solve a few problems for novice Ubuntu CJK users. The only downside is this bug that I'm talking about here, hopefully you can find out why and fix it, then it would be perfect. [Bug 433211] [NEW] Spreadsheet copy-paste of dollars and formulas broken
Public bug reported: This bug may belong upstream at OpenOffice.org . . . . OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 OOO310m19 (Build:9420) openoffice.org-core 1:3.1.1-1ubuntu2 Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 6, 64-bit (may be similar to bug #388464 ??) Spreadsheet Copy and paste in the spreadsheet of this edition of OpenOffice.org is completely and utterly broken (this breakage occurred between the edition of OpenOffice.org 3.x found in Ubuntu 9.04, where it worked, and now). Copying and pasting dollar values, such as $4,271.70, causes these to be inserted into the spreadsheet as text, i.e. '$4,271.70, not as numbers, which was the previous and proper behavior. Copying and pasting a formula meant to use these dollar values (even when they are converted back to numbers) brings up a weird text-formatting dialog box, and when a choice is made, and then pasting is supposed to occur, nothing is found in the supposedly pasted-into cells (in other words, you can no longer paste a formula found in one cell up or down a column). If one attempts to paste a formula from the originating cell into one single other cell, it works. If one continues, and pastes individually into a second receiving cell, that cell receives the _*value* of the first cell that *received* the paste_ (wtf!?). This all is about as incorrect a pasting behavior as can be. These problems manifest in some form whether one is attempting C-c, C-p, or Unix-style highlight and middle-click, or mouse/menu 'Copy'/'Paste'. If one cannot paste and delete numbers in and out of a spreadsheet (never mind doing any formatting afterwords), and cannot paste a formula up and down a column of numbers, it is pretty much useless. This is a show-stopper bug; I am going to have to switch to a different spreadsheet software. [Bug 433222] [NEW] klipper - highlighting text sometimes does not appear in Klipper
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 9.10 alphas 5 and 6 (and also in Ubuntu 9.04), 64-bit Klipper, v0.9.7 (KDE 4.3.1) being used with standard Ubuntu Gnome desktop Highlighted text (with mouse) sometimes does not appear in the clipboard history displayed in Klipper, and therefore this text cannot be pasted (middle-click paste desired, but C-p doesn't work, either). I have not found it possible to tell why it works sometimes and does not work other times. An example would be highlighting some text in Firefox to use as a title when saving a web-page. This behavior is a _regression_ - highlight and middle-click worked fine in Ibex, then degraded in Jaunty, such that I had to try to use the very defective Glipper. Current behavior in 9.10 alpha 6 is that if highlighted text does not appear in Klipper, highlighting same text a second time will cause it to appear and be available for middle-click pasting. In general, highlighting into system clipboards seems to be breaking (i.e. works only sometimes, unpredictably) in Gnome in recent Ubuntus. May have some similarities to bugs #311251, 380907 (though I do not fully get the latter's description). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- klipper - highlighting text sometimes does not appear in Klipper https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 434976] [NEW] kspread uses HUGE amount of RAM
Public bug reported: Opening a file in KSpread causes the program to bring the machine to its knees (almost all X activities nearly cease to function for quite some time) and use a vast amount of RAM. The file was a simple ODF spreadsheet with 6 columns and one column of formulas, with very little formatting, of about 100 KB in size. When file was clicked and kspread chosen, kspread, to my astonishment, took 98% or more of 8 GB of RAM, and then an additional 2.6 GB of swap. When kspread was just opened on its own from the Gnome menu, it seemingly opened normally, but when File-->Open was done on this file, kspread used up the 8 GB of real RAM, and then claimed 3.6 GB of swap (RAM and swap figures obtained from System Monitor). Closing or killing kspread dropped swap usage down to about 400 MB, and RAM usage down to the 800 or so MB being used before kspread was opened (truthfully, I've never really used any real amount of swap in this machine before). KSpread should just work, opening file normally with at most a few tens of MB of RAM used between itself and the file, and not affect any other program's GUI functioning (nor need any swap). Using fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 5 upgraded to alpha 6 packages 2 weeks later, 64-bit. kspread: Installed: 1:1.6.3-7ubuntu8 Candidate: 1:1.6.3-7ubuntu8 Version table: *** 1:1.6.3-7ubuntu8 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: koffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kspread uses HUGE amount of RAM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 434990] [NEW] Gnumeric copy-paste broken
Public bug reported: Copying and pasting of formulas in Gnumeric does not work properly. If a cell with formula is copied, and an attempt is made to paste it down a column, the formula is not copied, only the _value_ of the formula from the original cell. This behavior is seen with C-c, C-p, and with mouse- menu copy/paste. If the cell's lower-right corner 'marker' is pulled with the mouse, the formula WILL copy correctly down the column. If an area of data, including formulas, is copied, from INSIDE Gnumeric, and an attempt is made to copy it elsewhere in the same spreadsheet, the data may not copy, OR the Text Import Configuration dialog appears, asking for choices about tab-delimited, columns, formatting as number or text, and so on, before data will paste, and the formulas will NOT copy, only the values of those formulas at the original locations. Cell formatting does not appear to be preserved in the copy, even inside the same spreadsheet. Data highlighted and copied from, for example, an outside text file does not always paste into Gnumeric correctly. The data, and formulas, along with their formatting, should just copy to the new location, as is, and without extra dialog boxes, with formula references changing to the new relative positions, as spreadsheets have done for decades. This bug seems to be substantially the same as that I filed for OpenOffice, bug #433211 (also filed at OpenOffice itself as Issue 105211). I was unable to test copy-pasting in KSpread because of bug #434976. The bugs with the spreadsheets seem to me to be part of a larger Ubuntu and/or Gnome clipboard function problem that seemed to first appear in some form in Ubuntu 9.04, when highlighting and middle-mouse-button-pasting stopped working reliably, and which may be what led to these bug reports: klipper bug 433222 glipper bugs #216155 and #432906 and also to: gnumeric on 9.04, bug #379051 (but bug happens for _any_ size data, not just large) Fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 5, 64-bit, upgraded to packages of alpha 6 a week or so later. gnumeric: Installed: 1.9.9-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.9.9-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.9.9-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status gnome: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1:2.22.2~4ubuntu7 Version table: 1:2.22.2~4ubuntu7 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages ** Affects: gnumeric (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Gnumeric copy-paste broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434990 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433211] Re: Spreadsheet copy-paste of dollars and formulas broken
Inside the same OpenOffice spreadsheet, highlighting an area of data with formulas and visual formatting, and middle-clicking can paste data with all formulas and formatting intact. C-c and C-p of same area of data opens the Text Import dialog box, which asks for tab-delimited, columns, etc., and when pasted, no formulas are copied, only values from original locations, and NO formatting is copied. This all seems to be the same issue as a Gnumeric bug I filed - Bug #434990. I think it really involves a desktop clipboard bug first appearing in 9.04, when highlighting and middle-mouse-button-pasting stopped working reliably, and which may be what led to these bug reports: klipper bug 433222 glipper bugs #216155 and #432906 -- Spreadsheet copy-paste of dollars and formulas broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433211 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 434990] Re: Gnumeric copy-paste broken
"Prefer CLIPBOARD over PRIMARY" is indeed checked, yes. I believe the Gnumeric copy/paste problems are part of larger cop/paste defects in Ubuntu and/or Gnome. [Bug 433222] Re: klipper - highlighting text sometimes does not appear in Klipper
I fully updated Ubuntu 2009-09-25. Klipper seemed to consistently miss the first and sometimes second highlighting attempt in, say, a Firefox webpage. Only subsequent highlighting attempts would register (of same or sometimes different text string). [Bug 508632] [NEW] Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Nautilus, version 1:2.29.1-0ubuntu2 0 installed in Lucid Lynx alpha, updated as of 01/16/2010 Icon or button to toggle between the little "boxes" view, and the text view where you can type path or ssh or whatever, of the location field is missing. The right Ctrl-L combination does not work to toggle the version of the field (the left Ctrl-L combination still works, though it took me a very annoyingly long time to find that out). Expected behavior: Toggle button should be there and be OBVIOUS and either Ctrl-L should work to toggle field. Nautilus MUST have a location field that a directory path can be typed into or pasted into, as with a web browser. Without this Nautilus would be nearly useless [for me] - I would switch to a different file browser or out of Gnome all together. [Bug 1758589] [NEW] The wifi will be disconnected and the only thing I can do is to reboot the laptop
Public bug reported: First of all, I am not sure whether it's true that this is a bug of network-manager, but it's true that it should be a bug related with network (wifi connection) Here is the issue: Every time after I login into the account, about 20 minutes later, the wifi connection will be disconnected automatically. I even cannot reconnect the wifi manually, the only thing that I can do is to reboot the laptop. After login again, wifi can be connected (but through the manual way). By the way, during the period of the wifi disconnection, I checked the "Wi-Fi Networks" by click "Select Network" in order to try to reconnect it manually, but I found that there was only one SSID which previously the laptop connected to. However, I was definitely sure that there should be more than one SSID being showed in the wifi list. Even for this only one SSID, like I mentioned above, I cannot reconnect manually unless I reboot the system.
