"Prefer CLIPBOARD over PRIMARY" is indeed checked, yes. I believe the Gnumeric copy/paste problems are part of larger cop/paste defects in Ubuntu and/or Gnome. Problems also appear in Klipper and OpenOffice.org spreadsheet (as well as Glipper not working).
