Inside the same OpenOffice spreadsheet, highlighting an area of data with formulas and visual formatting, and middle-clicking can paste data with all formulas and formatting intact. C-c and C-p of same area of data opens the Text Import dialog box, which asks for tab-delimited, columns, etc., and when pasted, no formulas are copied, only values from original locations, and NO formatting is copied.
This all seems to be the same issue as a Gnumeric bug I filed - Bug #434990.
