[Bug 267376] Re: [intrepid] Package OpenOffice.org 3.0 for Backports

2009-05-12 Thread Mitchell
Chris:
The problem between openoffice 3.1 and language-support package is still there,
despite new OOo packages have been uploaded. So I wasn't able to test them
since i dont wanna lose translations in my other apps. Let us know when it
finally is fixed, thanks.

[Bug 187313] Re: [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item

2009-01-27 Thread Mitchell
Well, nobody does something to fix this bug. As a summary, the
workakound is to install the mouse gestures as recommended, but in fact
there seem to be a bug in the firefox 3 code, so the menu should not be
released when the right button is pressed, it should be showed when it
is released. In order to fix the bug temporarily there might be a
package compilated disabling this behavior (and so, the menu would be
showed when the right button is released), and this package might be
used by people who experience this bug (I guess everybody) or backported
for intrepid and hardy.

[Bug 187313] Re: [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item

2009-01-28 Thread Mitchell
Alexander, I agree with everyone that says that disabling accessibility is not
a workaround. In my case it was never enabled. Installing MouseGestures solved
the problem for me. I understand that this is not a true fix for the problem
but changing the behavior for Firefox right click through a patch instead of
installing MouseGestures would be a way to calm down the frustration of users
that already have noticed this bug but haven't reported yet because many users
(the most I guess) don't know how to solve their problems through launchpad or
irc (otherwise this bugreport would be a thousand times longer) . What I
propose is to release a package with this workaround and make people who have
this problem get informed that can install that package (maybe through ubuntu
webpage as a known issue). I propose this just because as others have said
before, Firefox is the default webbrowser in ubuntu and webbrowsing is an
important task in a desktop, so the first impression that a new ubuntu user can
have might be so frustrating that it would prevent him to consider ubuntu linux
as an alternative to his actual OS, and the importance of this bug should be
consider critical.
This just as a workaround until you reach to a real solution.

[Bug 334593] Re: documentation not accessible from yelp

2009-06-05 Thread Mitchell
I can confirm that yelp can't access to documentation other than of gnome, for
example if you perform a search and then yelp shows search results from docs
that are not gnome specific (i.e. I installed the Debian mantainer's manual)
and if you intend to access to any of the links that yelp shows it will show an
error "the file can't be read, maybe the file is missing or you don't have
permission to read it" despite I can browse through nautilus to the folder
where it is (/usr/share/doc/../index.html). It happens with many other
documentation, not only with that manual, for example:
file:///usr/share/doc/nano/faq.html#
file:///usr/share/doc/libglib2.0-doc/glib/index.html#
etc, to reproduce, make a search like with a word like "debian" and make click
in some content not gnome specific.
After clicking in links that give the error yelp finally closes.

[Bug 184255] Re: [patch] build amd64 package of zsnes

2009-06-13 Thread Mitchell
There is not evident work being done in this bug. Despite there is a
package for zsnes in intrepid amd64 it seems to be impossible for users
have an amd64 package on jaunty or karmic. If the problem is that zsnes
is in the Packages-arch-specific file can someone contact the maintainer
for removing it from there or seek a better solution?. If it is not
possible, what sounds like a kind of huge bureaucracy, why don't you put
the won't fix status to this bug? It is hard to say it but for bugs like
this (bugs that never get fixed) is that there is people asking for
themselves if ubuntu is really for human beings, and if it cares about
people who uses it.

ok, Phillip Kern mentioned that zsnes amd64 doesn't work for him. In

[Bug 380333] Re: OpenOffice 3.1 does not recognize key combination shortcut

2009-05-28 Thread Mitchell
After updating to OOo 3.1.0-3ubuntu2-intrepid1 from the PPA for OOo
scribblers, this behaviour is still present, So it has nothing to do
with the OOo l10n package. In the spanish version of OOo when pulse
Ctrl-e it is supposed to select all text, but instead of that, the text
get centered what is supposed to be assigned to Ctrl-t, when pulse
Crtl-t the action is to center the text, so the problem is with the
"select all" shortcut. Can someone give any clue to workaround this?

[Bug 380333] [NEW] OpenOffice 3.1 does not recognize key combination shortcut

2009-05-25 Thread Mitchell
Public bug reported:

Using OOo 3.1 on Ubuntu Intrepid from PPA for OOo Scribblers, with the
language support package from Karmic (since the package for OOo l10n
failed compiling until now, and I need the spanish support and
translations), the key combination for select all (Ctrl+E) makes the
text get centered instead. I assume there is an error mapping the key
combination in OOo code. It worked well in previous releases of OOo.

[Bug 395650] [NEW] OpenOffice 3.1 Impress force to open a png or jpg file with OpenOffice Draw instead of Eye of Gnome

2009-07-04 Thread Mitchell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

In OOo impress 3.1, when opening a png or jpg file from a link (created with
the interaction option in the presentation menu) in presentation mode will open
that png or jpg file with openoffice Draw instead of Eye of Gnome although png
and jpg files are set to be open with Eye of gnome. This is a regression since
it was possible to open those files from OOo impress in presentation mode with
EOG by default. To reproduce, create a blank presentation, add an object (maybe
a circle) then select it and go to the presentation>interaction menu, choose to
open a document and select a png or jpg file in your hard disk, finally press
F5 (presentation mode) and it will open with OOo Draw, which is not what we
want when performing a presentation. This happen despite of setting those files
to be opened with EOG by default in Evolution file properties. This happen
using OOo 3.1 from ppa OOo scribblers, under Ubuntu 8.10 and also 9.04.

[Bug 187313] Re: [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item

2009-05-02 Thread Mitchell
After updating to FF 3.0.10, I can't install mouse gestures. the plug-in seems
to be installed but when trying to configure it ask to restart FF, if i restart
FF, it ask it again and again when i try to configure, so it is never properly
installed because it seems to assume that FF has not been restarted. The random
behaviour does not disappear at all because the plugin is not installed
properly. Already tried purging and reinstalling FF. So mouse gestures is not a
workaround any more.
This bug is really annoying and the reaction that the community has showed
against it is very poor, more than 1 year and no solution, despite there are
already the way of getting a patch or something like that. We are waiting until
the official FF release fix this bug. Three releases of ubuntu involved with
this annoying bug in the default browser. I really hope that the community
reacts faster in the future just because this is not gonna be the last time we
have a bug like this. I believe the main reason people turn to use Ubuntu is
because of the usability and the updated software, so the community also should
react faster to bugs like this and provide a patch for ubuntu or something and
not only wait until the solution is included in the code of an official release.
Ill wait to 3.0.11 (hoping that the fix not be put back again) and downgrade to
3.0.9 if it is possible, but I'm really disappointed with this kind of
bureaucracy. It makes me remember the release of debian etch that was put back
over and over again, I hope Ubuntu is not going in that direction.

[Bug 300962] Re: ath5k: Can't connect to access point using compat-wireless-2008-11-22 on ar5007 atheros hardware (phy0: unsupported jumbo)

2009-01-10 Thread Mitchell
i have the same card, i download the snapshot from madwifi page (see
ticket 1192 and follow the links), compile it following the steps from
madwifi "first time how to". its important that you blacklist ath5k,
otherwise ath5k module will load preventing ath_pci work properly,
obviously the ath_pci module you will be using is that one from snapshot
because the one from restricted modules will be uninstalled (see the
madwifi how to). The last madwifi snapshot works just fine, but
sometimes has breakages, but i think that for this card is more stable
than ath5k at this point. I also tested the last ath5k from linux
wireless compat , but some random error occur, sometimes the card
sttoped working and the card led didn't turn on (which scared me) and it
didn't work after rebooting and starting again with windows. The
solution was to completely shutdown the laptop and booting again, i
guess it has something to do woth the openhal that uses ath5k. Well i
recommend you to use the madwifi snapshot and uninstall the backport
modules and your card will work.

[Bug 314530] Re: APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)

2009-02-08 Thread Mitchell
Is this bug related to this other?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/270798
well as far as I have noticed, in my laptop TOSHIBA a215s4767 with intrepid
fully updated, AMD turion 64 X2, ATI x1200, 2GB RAM, it happens wit ubuntu
kubuntu, 32 bits and 64 bits, well I got rid of it by disabling APIC support
at boot, adding this option to the kernel line in grub: noapic.
but I have realized that when I execute some opengl appication (the ones who
caused hpet increasing min_delta... as the bug I linked), the video gets some
slow, like it reduced the fps. but the hpet and the APIC error on CPUs messages
disappeared.
In fact I am working now without the noapic option on my 64 bits intrepid, and
i get eventually some lockups and the hpet increasing message, and a bunch of
APIC error on CPUs messages, but I can live with it.
I think that this two bugs are related and the two of them have the noapic
option as a workaround, but this may alter in some way the behavior of the
system, especially when more processing capabilities are required. The system
in general may be affected in the performance.

In fact Ive been trying the workaround, it works, but... when I run OpenGL
applications (those that seem to cause the lookups and the hpet increasing)
they run really slow. So I've come back to work without the noapic option

[Bug 141613] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-03-27 Thread Mitchell
Since the amd64 native alpha plugin from Adobe fix this bug, could
someone distribute a flashplugin-nonfree 10.0.22.87ubuntu1 package that
download the amd64 plugin from
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplayer10/libflashplayer-10.0.22.87.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
and that does not depend on the nspluginwrapper package?, I think that
this is a good solution until whether a final x86_64 plugin is released
or the 32 bit plugin fix the problem. Notice that what I'm proposing is
to distribute this package temporarily and for the ones that don't have
any inconvenience in using an alpha 64-bit plugin.

[Bug 350946] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 beta desktop fails to boot from usb-stick

2009-04-15 Thread Mitchell
I guess it would be a kernel related problem?, I have tried creating the
bootable usb from Intrepid usind usb-creator, also tried on jaunty (on a
virtual machine with usb support), after that tried to do it deleting the
partition and forcing usb-creator to format and also selecting "discard
settings on shutdown".
Nothing worked, it always showed the same message.
Do you know how can I attach the dmesg output from booting the usb (since it
stop booting and show a initram console)?
Does it would help?

for jaunty and even intrepid users. Now that the update to 3.0.8 has

[Bug 1896644] [NEW] Dual screen window size problem

2020-09-22 Thread Mitchell
Public bug reported:

Certain programs don't seem to co-operate well with a dual monitor
setup. If it is of any importance, my setup is a laptop with a TV
plugged in via HDMI. So far I've found that VLC media player and Oracle
Virtualbox won't play nicely with two monitors. When both monitors are
in use, virtualbox crashes before it can open, and vlc tends to freeze
the entire system, requiring a hard reboot. If I run these programs
while only one monitor is being used and plug in the second one, they'll
start misbehaving if moved to the other monitor. virtualbox and vlc will
both become way too huge to be usable.

[Bug 1694885] [NEW] When playing the "headphone test" it cranked the volume of my virtual output to over 15k%. My speakers nearly killed themselves.

2017-05-31 Thread Mitchell
Public bug reported:

Summary says it all. The volume percentage was checked with
`pavucontrol.` The tone played fine. Then this happened, I thought it
would just stay at the same volume.

[Bug 1573168] Re: [Frieza] Location service fails to start cleanly, entering restart loop

2016-04-21 Thread Mitchell
Hi Thomas, I can confirm this bug on Freiza. Currently gps and location
is unusable. This happened both before updating to ota 10, and on 9.5.
Any workarounds?

Thanks,

[Bug 184255] Re: zsnes fails to build on amd64

2010-12-04 Thread Mitchell
I recall a comment I made more than a year ago, why don't you set the
bug status as won't fix?, there is no progress in this bug at all, and
nobody knows how to solve it or if somebody knows, does not made the
needed thing to solve this bug. I get surprised when an e-mail is sent
to me about activity in this bug because... maybe this will be fixed
when no one of us who used to play with zsnes remember how to use it, or
may be it will be fixed when we are 80 y.o.

Can anyone try the patch they are talking about in these comments?

if they are successful in building on an amd64 Debian sid, it should build on

[Bug 1249387] Re: hook Oxide into Ubuntu platform API for media-hub

2015-05-13 Thread Mitchell
Hi David, just wondering if this has landed yet? I'm on vivid-proposed with my
Nexus 7 (image 194), and building with the above flag doesn't work. When using
this flag in the desktop file:
--enable-media-hub-audio
I get no audio whatsoever. Is there anything else I need to add or do? I'm
using ubuntu-sdk-15.04

Thanks.

[Bug 1427264] Re: using ecryptfs, creating frameworks fail to bind mount issues

2015-05-17 Thread Mitchell
Wow - this experience has been painful. Have just spent an hour or so
debugging my machine to work out why it froze each time I logged into my
main user account. No terminals worked, nothing, nada. Finally logged
into another user (not with admin rights), used the password from my
main account to give it admin rights, then needed to DELETE the line I
added from comment #15 above to be able to log back in as my main user
again. This is nasty!!!

Looking forward to seeing a workable solution soon.

[Bug 1419575] Re: WiFi not detected - Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565

Logging in with Unity 8 lxc on a dell xps 13 ultrabook does not give me

first in LightDM. This machine is wireless only.

There's very limited testing I can do until this issue is fixed.

[Bug 1321920] Re: Ctrl-V doesn't work

2014-11-18 Thread Mitchell
Until todayI thought the webbrowser (and ALL the webapps) on Ubuntu
14.10 desktop were unusable - copy and paste is essential. Have found a
workaround by right clicking on the web page, and the touch dialogue
comes up for paste. This is a major functionality issue, and should be
fixed - ctrl +v is standard on all systems. This should be backported to
14.10.

[Bug 1366230] [NEW] Whitespace causes random character deletions

2014-09-05 Thread Mitchell
Public bug reported:

Frustrating bug that has been around since I started dogfooding ubuntu
on my nexus 4 - somwhere around the 180 image mark. Am currently running
devel-proposed 223 on mako.

Have tested this in multiple apps, including the default Notes, Quick
Memo, Touchwriter - all have the same issue. Typing and deletion work
fine initally, until I create an empty line - see below for an example:

Example---
Here I'm typing a usual line... about to make a space

Here I'm typing after the space, etc.
---End Example--

When I go back to edit the first line, as soon as I delete characters at
the end of the line, the line below jumps up, and deletes a number of
those characters. See below for the example:

Example---
Here I'm typing a usual line... about to make ae I'm typing after the space,
etc.
---End Example--

This makes storing notes on the device, and any editing with the
keyboard, extremely difficult. I notice this only seems to happen when
there is whitespace in between lines - otherwise keyboard is fine. I'm
filing this report as a keyboard bug, as it's the only linking thread I
can see between these programs.

[Bug 1379738] [NEW] Ubuntu-sdk fails to restart unity8 dash when installing an app

2014-10-10 Thread Mitchell
Public bug reported:

This happens when trying to install an app on my nexus 4 handset (mako)
running Ubuntu Touch RTM 4. When I build a click app with the sdk, I can
install the app fine on my device, however I need to manually refresh
the dash for the app to be seen. I can do this by installing an app from
the store, or by uninstalling an app. Killing the unity8-dash from a

Expected behavior? That the app is visible after installing it from the
sdk. The dash should automatically refresh after install without the
user doing anything.

[Bug 1379836] Re: dialer and messaging app show unlocked pin as locked

2014-10-18 Thread Mitchell
Under RTM 5 on Mako, I'm having the same bug, and I managed to PUK lock
my phone. Found another work-around:

Firstly, I had not set a sim pin, and settings showed this wasn't
locked. After trying to 'unlock' my pin three times unsucessfully, I was
asked for my PUK code. SIM was screwed, basically. Was able to search
for the PUK code for Telstra, and found a site where I could enter my
details and retrieve it. If you are with Telstra in Australia, you can
find this under My Account.

Once entering this, I found I could then choose a pin. Now each time I reboot I
need to enter this pin and all is fine. I tried unsetting this however, and got
the same problem again - sim was locked while saying it was not, etc. Was only
able to resolve it by entering the WRONG pin three times, reentering my PUK
code, then setting my pin again.
Bug seems to be that pin lock needs to stay on for now. Anyway, have downgraded
ofono package on my device in case I need to downgrade in a hurry. Looking
forward to this being fixed.

[Bug 1382867] [NEW] No way to set other search engines

2014-10-18 Thread Mitchell
Public bug reported:

On rtm 5 with mako, currently there is no way to change the search
engine to something other than google. In trying to extract myself from
Google's ecosystem, this would be a great feature. At the very least, it
would be nice to be able to set a different default search page. (like
Duck Duck Go).

Etienne Millon says that it is possible to build zsnes 1.510-3 in debian
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=402104#104 , but we
will have to wait until wheezy is in development. It would be great if
some ubuntu developer could backport zsnes 1.510-3 in some ppa, anyway
the code can be gotten from http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-games/zsnes.git

I have just installed the file-roller package from Maverick, and the
same error occurs. Could someone tell if there is a package from
launchpad, or somewhere else to try that fixes this annoying error? this
error is especially annoying in languages other than English because of

names.
