Hi!

I see, the discussion goes already far beyond my humble purposes. Thanks for
the answers.

Fernando, is there a special feature in crafty why you want to use this

There are two features that I like in crafty. First, yes, the "skill"
option. Although I was not so hopeful since you have to set the skill level
and then compile. It is not a bar that you shift as in scid with phalanx.
But of course, if xboard-machines were more compatible with the UCI ones,
writing some additional code in crafty (and in scid, I guess) to use it as a
tactical (or serious) opponent could have been a nice scid-project.

The other one is the possibility of having customized opening books. I mean
you can fix which openings you would like that crafty plays against you and
in which percentage. I know, there are several pre-fixed opening books for
example for fruit. Also for shredder. Or you can even choose the opening in
scid. But all of this is definitly not the same. The crafty option helps a
lot in training.

Of course to enjoy the previous features you just need xboard. However it
would be pretty to have ALL the other possibilities scid has. For example
playing against crafty while coach is watching over your shoulders. The way
I do is quite cumbersome.... either I play simultaneously on xboard and scid
or I simply analyze post-mortem with fruit or with shredder. Having
real-time coaching is much useful and you learn, I think, much quicker.
Especially if you happen not to have much time (my case) for chess.

And why crafty? Serious game against fruit is too brutal for me. I play
fruit only when I feel suicidal. Recently I acquired DeepShredder which
allows you the skill option. But it would be nice to have crafty in scid.

Again, thanks a lot. Sorry for the long answer.
