IDE or SCSI cd? If it's IDE, what position is it on your
IDE chain? Chances are your CDROM never got linked from the
IDE position (assuming it's IDE) to the /dev/cdrom. OR,
your xplaycd doesn't know anything about it.

I tried an alternate CD Player awhile back and found that
the ONLY cd player that'll work for me is KSCD (under KDE.)
Give that one a shot (assuming you're using KDE) and see if
it works.

BTW, you can't mount a music CD and you'll never see
anything in /mnt/cdrom unless you have a data CD loaded AND
mounted.
