External monitors are your friend. While I can work on the 16" 16:9
monitor that's built in, I do most of my editing work when I'm at home
with a 21" CRT running at 1836x1392.

One of the nice things about HP is they still make docking stations.
I've got one so I just need to plug in a single cable and stick the
laptop in the cradle and all of my peripherals are connected (Monitor,
keyboard & mouse, ethernet, external drives, 2 scanners, printer,
speakers, etc).
