Within the last month I have bought a Dell Vostro 3700 with 500Mb hard disk, 1Gb dedicated graphics memory, 4Gb RAM, quad-core 64-bit jobby, solid build quality, 17.3" screen. It eats Lightroom for breakfast. The only downside is that that I would have preferred a higher res screen - my Vostro is 1600x900 whereas my previous Dell Precision M50 was 1600x1200 on a 15" screen. When I was investigating these things I found that the specs for this are identical to the specs for a 17" Macbook Pro except the mac's resolution is 1920x1200 - Apple however wanted £1,000- more for this than Dell was asking!
