Daniel, I had the same issue as you even with google earth. I fixed my problem with adding a video card I had on hand that was Nividia. But I was tired of Nividia cause my ATI kicks butt in games so I reinstalled it and set it to 4x and guess what? Both Google Earth and the new LIVE CD worked. I do not even suffer any frame lost at 4x.
