Monica you mean you installed fglrx 8.31.5 manually abd it works with 3D hardware rendering ? ; now if it is a fix why the package is not made available to the community ?
If so can you check whether X300 Radeon is supported. Before installing with Method 2 did you remove existing fglrx package from Ubuntu distro ?
