: To me, the release timing doesn't much affect what logo we decided to use or
: when to adopt it. Surely the most visible, important location for the logo is
: on the website, that we can replace at any time?

Agreed ... the 2 biggest takeaways from the recent interest in
redesigning the logo seem to be:
  1) we should try to get a wide variety of Logo ideas before
     making any changes.
  2) we shouldn't rush making changes.

Speaking of which, if we want to maintain the momentum of interest in this
topic, someone (ie: not me) should setup a "LogoContest" wiki page with
some of the "goals" discussed in the various threads on solr-user and
solr-dev recently, as well as draft up some good guidelines for how we
should run the contest ... a google search for "apache logo contest" will
turn up some good backround on how this has been done by other projects in
the past. (Allthough i think attaching submissions to SOLR-84 makes more
sense then having people inline them in the wiki ... Jira has the
nice "Grant License" chain of custody)
