After more debugging and digging I have found the bug to because I am
using grub2 on this host as grub1 doesnt play nice with the cutting edge
dell machines in our lab, and our lab deployment software (another
story).
What I have done is extract the grub binary from the deb package and
modified /u

suggested in FAQ # 835 as recommended. And restarted the Ubuntu One
client. I went through the test I had previously where it was failing

I am currently using the Latest Ubuntu 11.10 development release with all
updates as of 9/28/2011
as well as the latest Thunderbird and lightning release included.
When I create or try to open an event lightning hangs and both

Since the last few Ubuntu 11.10 b2 / unity updates this error seems to
no longer occur. It was consistently repeatable until mid last week;
However, I am now successfully able to edit current events and create
new events.

I haven't been able to successfully load the unity desktop since this
crash. All I get is the desktop with the file menu in the top left
corner. I am not able to view or access any indicators or the unity
bar. I have logged off, rebooted, and manually shutdown without

This has been happening to me. Especially with firefox, thunderbird,
skype, and pidgin running. I can have all the windows open, none of the
fully maximized and I am unable to get focus on any of them.
Occasionally, I do manage to get focus on a window, but the menu at the

This just reoccurred again. I did as you asked, but no bug report appeared. I
am running ubuntu 11.10 beta 2 development build.
Unity crashes and restarts silently. No crash report appears. Would it show
up some where else. Maybe it would be better to term it that it causes unity
to restart

compiz assert
I ran Update to make sure my system was up to date. I rebooted my machine and
tested to see if the bug was occurring.
It was so I opened a terminal and ran unity --reset as you requested. Unity
reset and the launcher was shown. However; it had changed from `auto hide` to
`dodge window` I reboo
One more note. I am using a Toshiba NB 305 netbook with a 1024 x 600
(16:9) resolution display and have a Xerox 19" LCD VGA with a external
monitor with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 (5:4) attached which I am using
as my primary monitor. I have the netbook display disabled. When I get
to the login
I did have an external USB drive attached earlier, along with several
other USB devices attached to a USB hub. However; I just got the crash
again after booting and do not have any USB devices attached at all.
