I'm running Intrepid on a Dell Inspiron 1501. While most of the function
keys work fine, the mute key does not. This is quite annoying as I use
it a lot (in lectures for example) and I currently either have to use
the gui to mute it or just drop the volume til it's muted.

Not sure if it will be fixed in Hardy, I used the fix posted above and
haven't had any problems since. Brightness works fine in Intrepid, with
the power manager resetting the brightness for battery conservation as
well.

I'm on a Dell Iinspiron 1501 also using 8.10. Same error message and the
same issues with the battery monitoring as Graziano. Battery charge
monitor is unreliable. The battery seems to discharge more quickly in
Intrepid, but not sure that would be related with this bug. I've also

Firstly, thank-you for taking interest in this bug. It's been a real
nuisance as Suspend and Hibernate worked in Feisty and Gutsy in the
earlier stages of development, but did not work in the final versions. I
think sleep worked in Feisty.

Further information: I have another installation of Intrepid on the same
laptop which last ran updates maybe around or before 1800hrs UTC on the
22nd of Sep. It will suspend and hibernate well from the 2.6.27-3
kernel, but not from 2.6.27-4.

I also found FF3 incredibly slow - so much that I installed opera
instead. I tried re-installing FF3, but no good. Eventually I checked
the Network settings and found that it was set to "Automatically check
for proxy settings". I changed that to "No Proxy" and it now seems
faster than Opera.

the openchrome driver. I've had this problem with it every time I've
used it.

I've been working on pc's with the same chipset (KM400 with the VT8378)
and have had similar issues. In the 8.04 install it may be using either
the xserver-xorg-via driver or the xserver-xorg-openchrome driver. I've
had resolution issues with both. In the end I installed the xserver-
xorg-unichrome
I can authenticate this bug. I did a fresh install, but kept my old home
folder (on a separate partition). Some of the menu items (network-admin)
were upgraded, while users-admin and shares-admin were NOT upgraded and
I had to remove the gksu manually. Strange that I had the problem
anyway, I thoug

I also lost the cursor yesterday for the first time since I got rid of
gnome screensaver several weeks ago. I had OpenOffice, nautilus, xmms,
gmail notifier and maybe Firefox running. This is the first time it's
happened on Edgy Eft as well. The version of x-screeensaver I have
installed is: 4.
I don't think the graphics card is a factor as I'm running an old Intel
82801 and the problem sounds the same. What programs are you running
when the problem occurs?
I have been running Gaim, Openoffice, Gmail Notify, Firefox, Thunderbird
and XMMS when the problem has occurred.

I seem to have managed to solve most probs with x-screensaver. I also
had an issue where only one screensaver would come up, regardless of any
setting I may have set. All problems seem to have been solved however,
by completely removing gnome-screensaver using Synaptic.
