If this is OK then, what is the best way to do it?
Should I use Adrian Bunk's stuff to do it?

i'll log in, work a bit, logout, and x restarts, but gdm is gone, so

Brian,
I like your response and Joris Lambrecht's to this saga the best.

When you do come back, you have to realize a few things.
First of all, installing and using any linux distro, especially debian,
is nothing like installing and using windows. It doesn't matter how
much of an expert you are in windows. It won't carry over into debian.
This is a major source of fr

I'd suggest you'd read this recently posted link, that's the way it's

If it's for personal use I would use something like similar to this:

What about xfig? Quite widely used in the academic fields for drawing
vector figures. Doesn't use either popular
I have the same setup (but just switched to progeny). Do a
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86. Select the "nv" driver (unless you
installed the drivers from nvidia).

Greetings,
I, being an open-minded individual (not), decided to take a look at

I'd have to agree here - my one exception is Mozilla, which requires one run
as root before it'll work for normal users (dunno why - it's annoying, but
