[Bug 252121] Re: Generating locale does not terminate

2008-07-27 Thread jonny
Got the same Problem here, thanks for telling me the right process to kill.
Also upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04.1.
I have no 64 bit system. Packet manager seems to have unresolved dependencies
-- i have kde, xfce and gnome installed. I have german and english locales,
both wrecked during upgrade.
uname: linux 2.6.22-15-generic i686

[Bug 5364] Re: Can't use static ip address with network-manager (and thus no VPN connections menu for static users)

2008-11-17 Thread jonny
I also found that gheeke's solution workds for me, but, if this isn't a
bug, it's very bad user interface design. The order that you follow the
steps matters - and I can't see why it should.

If I add a static connection and then delete the system-created dhcp
auto-eth0 connection, the dhcp connection is silently reinstated on
startup, regardless of how I toggle the System Setting and Connect
Automatically flags. However, if I reverse the order and delete the
dhcp connection before adding my static connection, I get prompted for
my password when I recreate the new connection and the new configuration
survives a reboot. I've tested this behaviour on two different Intrepid
boxes, one of which was a clean install and the other a Hardy upgrade.

2006-07-12 Thread Jonny
Just wanted to comment that booting to recovery console and running
fixboot, fixmbr had no effekt on my problem. Even a reinstall of xp
dident work. I had to use a trird party program (called Partition Table
Doctor ) to fix it. If anyone needs this info to save their NTFS
partition as most do not backup :). It is possible their is freeware to
do the job also. Altho i did not have time to look around. I read plenty
about ppl having same problem where fixmbr did not work for whatever
reason.

[Bug 30344] Re: Gaphor doesn't start

2008-01-13 Thread jonny
Summarizing the above, I can confirm that the workaround for 7.10 AMD64
is as follows:

1. Manually install the missing dependency python-setuptools
2. Edit /usr/bin/gaphor and change the first line to #!/usr/bin/python2.4

Gaphor then appears to run properly, although I haven't yet used it in
anger.

[Bug 204548] [NEW] Security upgrade to 5.0.45-1ubuntu3.3 fails on AMD 64

2008-03-21 Thread jonny
Public bug reported:

Today's security upgrade to mysql-server-5.0 5.0.45-1ubuntu3.3 failed
for me on an AMD 64 platform with an error message "access denied for
debian-sys-maint". After the failed upgrade, I was no longer able to
start or stop the MySQL service with the script in /etc/init.d.mysql, as
I received the same error message.

After manually changing the privileges for the debian-sys-maint user
with the password found in /etc/mysql/debian.cnf, the upgrade continued.

[Bug 90735] 2.6.17-11 kernel killed usb keyboard and mouse

2007-03-08 Thread jonny
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-11-generic

After taking Edgy security update to kernel 2.6.17-11, my wireless usb
keyboard and mouse stopped working. Reverting to 2.6.17-10 resolves the
issue. An identical keyboard continues to work on a different PC, so
the issue appears to be motherboard related.

[Bug 192938] Re: GRUB won't install in text mode in hardy alpha 4

2009-12-17 Thread Jonny
I had the exact same error while installing Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit. After
finding this thread I looked in /var/log/syslog for details, and noticed
that "apt-get install grub" failed near the end of the install. I
rebooted into the live CD, configured my networking properly and
attempted the install again. It worked perfectly this time. Perhaps the
installation media either needs grub2 to be added, or maybe the user
needs to be given an opportunity to configure the network settings prior
to installation? At any rate, I hope this helps!

[Bug 140272] Re: Nova-T 500 kernel module dvb-usb-dib0700 requires options for LNA activation.

2009-12-06 Thread jonny
I confirm that this bug still affects Karmic, kernel 2.6.31-15-generic
with a Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500 DVB-T tuner card. However, the remedy
has changed slightly from earlier reports.

The fix now requires the configuration directive to be enteretd in
/etc/modprobe.d/options.conf (note the extra .conf on the filename that
wasn't required for earlier kernel versions). The configuration file
file should contain this line:

options dvb-usb-dib0700 force_lna_activation=1

[Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace

2017-12-10 Thread Jonny
I think this bug broke my desktop when upgrading to Ubuntu 17, but I'm
not sure if it's the originally reported component that has the bug as I
don't know if the re-write for gnome 3 that was mentioned above actually
happened.

In any case, why are the compiz packages available for new installations
if they are clearly broken and won't be fixed?

2019-09-29 Thread jonny
Im greatful for the fix, so thank you.

I'm just curious, I seen you have a new acct at launchpad. Like just
today your acct was created, with what looks like the sole purpose to
push this patch. I don't mean to be accusatory and I certainly don't
know how to read source code, but I've read stories of malicious patches
getting pushed thru under the radar, so I'm hoping you can just explain
why this acct was created today, same day to push the patch. I'm sure
I'm being paranoid so im sorry. Surely theres a perfectly good
explanation for all this.

Thanks for your time and info. Thank you so much for helping the Linux
community.

2019-09-29 Thread jonny
Hey thanks so much for your rapid response. Just the response makes me
feel better.

Hmm but that is strange about your acct on 16.x being used with Google
when you been using 18.x. That is strange. I hope no one injected
anything malicious somehow. I don't see how an email from Google would
imply that, but heck what if someone cloned an old machine or logged in
as you from an Ubuntu 16.x machine.

Idk. Anyway you have a great day thanks again so much for the reply and
not getting angry with me. Nothing is safe these days so I hope I can be
viewed as being vigilant, opposed to just annoying lol.

See ya later!!

[Bug 1687384] Re: apt-get upgrade fails. package snapd 2.23.1~14.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 5

2017-05-01 Thread Jonny
Hi Seth,

Confirmed. The version numbers are accurate. I have no clue how this could have
happened.
Before dealing with this crash, I had no idea about snappy. It had not been
used either. There were no snaps installed.

Kind regards,
Jonny

2017-05-03 Thread Jonny
My attempts to remove or re-install snapd failed so far. I lost patience
and hacked snapd.prerm by making it exit 0 immediately. After that, the
apt-get upgrade had no more issues changing that package. Snappy works
now and can install and uninstall packages. I tested it with the "hello-
world" package. Snappy had not worked before, so I guess that's a viable
workaround?

[Bug 1734294] [NEW] package tex-common 6.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-11-24 Thread jonny
Public bug reported:

I didnt see a bug for the 6.04 tex-common, so im submitting this. I did an in
place upgrade from ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04.
I just rebooted for the second time after the upgrade, so im not sure if its
going to 'fix itself' after a few more reboots or not. Each time im rebooting
various things seem to be getting better (first reboot had all kinds of
problems, updater didnt work, no wifi access, gui broken but still there).
After this 2nd update, the updater says im 'up to date', the wifi is working,
and the gui is closer to normal. Will report back if problems persist. Feel
free to ask for more details, or log files. Im assuming you can contact me from
inside launchpad without me having to post my email addy.

[Bug 1746818] [NEW] smb4k on Kubuntu 16.04 working no longer with new hwe kernel 4.13

2018-02-01 Thread Jonny
Public bug reported:

With new HWE kernel 4.13 for Ubuntu 16.04, there was a major change from
smb v1 to smb v3 as default method in the kernel 4.13 and now smb4k
1.1.2 from xenial repo is no longer working.

Only Version 2.0 of smb4k is supporting smb v3.

Solution is an updated version of smb4k in the ubuntu repo.

[Bug 1704664] [NEW] fglrx-core crashes when installing dependencies

2017-07-16 Thread Jonny
Public bug reported:

The command line that cause this was:

  sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1 libc6-i386 dkms

I downloaded AMD's latest and tried to install them. Upon running those
installers, something with fglrx crashed in the background and caused
apport to appear. Not quite sure how and why or if this is even
critical.

I'm not even sure if the AMD drivers were even running. I'm just very

[Bug 1704664] Re: fglrx-core crashes when installing dependencies

2017-07-16 Thread Jonny
Quick update: I just rebooted after installing the .deb files provided by AMD
and now unity won't log me in any more. :(
I boot with option 'nomodeset' and reach the unity login screen. The I try to
log in, then the screen goes blank, and then I am back to the login again.

Expected: Desktop
Observed: Login screen (no errors reported on screen)

[Bug 284951] Re: Intrepid: Gamepad "Saitek P580" not working in games, buttons not detected.

2008-10-26 Thread Jonny Dee
Thanx a lot, CyberConan,

I use my heli control pad for a heli simulator running under wine
(strangely enough this windows application does not work under windows
vista--but under wine it does ;) ). It was recognized gracefully as a
joystick under hardy, but, surprisingly under intrepid, I suddenly had
the same issue as you all. I could control my mouse but not my heli.
Your deb-Package fixed my problem :) :) :) Many thanx also to Albert
Damon for his fix!!! And I also agree--it's not a non-critical issue,
but it definitely IS a critical issue!

Best regards,
Jonny

[Bug 208253] Re: Can't change Documents or Desktop paths

2008-05-23 Thread Jonny Tyers
I can confirm that in my case the [$e] does indeed seem to be the
culprit. I had no ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs at all until changing the
settings via KMenu->System Settings. Once I had changed those settings,
the new directory I specified for Desktop appeared in user-dirs.dirs
with the [$e]. Logging out and back in revealed no change (the contents
of the root directory was still on the desktop), but removing the [$e]
from the lines in there and logging out/back in then fixes the problem.

I'm a little puzzled that the Desktop directory was set to / even
without the presence of user-dirs.dirs in my home directory (does this
imply that some system-wide setting is using / as the default Desktop
directory for new users?), and also that others have not mentioned this
[$e] when documenting their workarounds (in this bug and bug #174532).

[Bug 116626] Re: WM5 (Windows Mobile 5) support

2007-06-03 Thread Jonny Lamb
Greetings,

I am a SynCE project admin and work on it upstream. I just wanted to say that I
have already packaged the following for the 0.10.0 release:
 * libsynce -- update
 * librapi2 -- update
 * librra -- update
 * librtfcomp -- new package
 * synce-gnomevfs -- new package
 * odccm -- new packaeg
 * usb-rndis -- new package -- uses module-assistant
 * vdccm -- update
 * (synce-serial -- I forgot to do this one earlier, and I'm doing it now)
These are available at my repository: http://jonnylamb.com/debian/

I am currently in the process of getting these into Debian and am awaiting my
sponsor. There are complications about packaging pywbxml because it requires
the SynCE-updated libwbxml2, and the libwbxml2 maintainer is being unresponsive
at the moment -- his Trac site (http://libwbxml.aymerick.com:8080/) is down at
the moment, and hasn't committed anything to SVN for a while now. This
complication is documented on the website.
Of course if we wait around these will get into Ubuntu when Debian unstable is
copied next, but if it is really required, I could try and get these into
Ubuntu independently.

Regards,

[Bug 446303] Re: Can't connect to network with WEP encryption

2010-02-23 Thread Jonny D
I just got what sounds like this bug right after installing Kubuntu.
$ uname -a
Linux kubuntu 2.6.31-19-generic #56-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 28 01:26:53 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux
Machine is an older Macbook.

The symptoms:
Knetworkmanager seems to store the password for a wireless connection but then
asks again.
Knetworkmanager does not attempt to connect when you submit the password. It
stays in the disconnected state with the disconnected icon in the tray.
When you choose the connection again, it asks for the password again (twice),
doing the same thing as above.
When run in a terminal, Knetworkmanager just says "Object::disconnect:
Unexpected null parameter". This message seems to be produced when the
password is submitted.

I reproduced the bug by first allowing Kwallet to store the connection
password. It gets annoying having to type my user password each time I
log in just to connect to the internet, so I disabled Kwallet. The next
time I tried to connect (the next reboot), Knetworkmanager exhibits this
bug. It is not such an obvious relationship because one can reboot
hours after making the Kwallet and other system changes.

My solution was to re-enable Kwallet. Now I still have to type in my
user password to open the wallet, but wireless connections are working.

It seems that Knetworkmanager does not fall back to accepting the user's
input when Kwallet was previously used and is now unavailable.

[Bug 483857] Re: NVIDIA® GeForce G 105M - 512 MB, gives 6 screens, with nvidia drivers version 180

2009-11-30 Thread Jonny Nilsson
This problem looks to be related to the nvidia drivers.
I think it's because nvidia can't detect the right resolution for the monitor.
And unfortunately forcing a resolution in ubuntu or any linux dist for that
matter is not easy to say the least...

Running latest ubuntu here (9.10).

[Bug 867682]

2012-04-19 Thread Jonny-lamb
I don't get this. The line where an assertion is clearly not satisfied
is wocky-c2s-porter.c:1377. Yet, in gabble 0.13.5 this is the line:

1374 if (!wocky_xmpp_connection_send_close_finish (WOCKY_XMPP_CONNECTION
(source),
1375res, &error))
1376{
1377  g_simple_async_result_set_from_error (priv->close_result, error);
1378  g_error_free (error);
1379
1380  goto out;
1381}

So g_simple_async_result_set_from_error, but that's a real symbol (not
inline or a macro) and we don't get a frame for
g_simple_async_result_set_from_error in the backtrace so it seems to be
failing in close_sent_cb?

However, there's no typecheck there? so I don't understand what's
actually failing here. If we could see what assertion is actually being
logged failing that would be useful. Perhaps look in xsession-errors?

+1 This has occurred for me while upgrading a server from Natty to
Oneiric via do-release-upgrade. A fix would be great as I'm sure it
affects others who are upgrading via this path (I'm going from Natty to
Precise).

[Bug 1075364] [NEW] Ubuntu Desktop Guide - Tree view defaults

2012-11-05 Thread Jonny McCullagh
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu Desktop Guide / Help suggests that Nautilus file manager can be
configured for 'Tree view defaults'.
Tree-view is gone from Nautilus so this section should be removed - it also
makes reference to a menubar i.e. View > Sidebar > Tree. There is no longer a
menu bar either. Much to my disappointment. For tree view users can install
Nemo.

Hi,

Is there any update to this crash problem? I am still experiencing the
issue of chromium crashing with no error report. In the previous post on
the 9th of September it was said that something would be happening
within 8-10 days. I am keeping my system upto date but maybe im not
downloading the correct files to fix this issue?

Thanks
