[Bug 296239] [NEW] Arabic GIMP translation is missing

2008-11-10 Thread Djihed
Public bug reported:

Arabic GIMP translation is missing from this package. There are
translations for libgimp, plug-ins, etc... but since the main UI
interface translation file is missing, no Arabic translation is used.

Was there any error that prevented Arabic GIMP .po file from being
included?

[Bug 296239] Re: Arabic GIMP translation is missing

2008-11-10 Thread Djihed
I don't how this happened:

$ dpkg -L language-pack-ar-base  | grep gimp
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-tips.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-libgimp.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-std-plug-ins.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-script-fu.mo

$ sudo apt-get install language-pack-ar-base --reinstall
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-tips.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-libgimp.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-std-plug-ins.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-script-fu.mo

This is after an upgrade to Intrepid from Hardy. Weird.

[Bug 91890] Re: Custom DNS settings lost on boot

2008-11-15 Thread Djihed
I meant the opendns workaround.

I am afraid this bug is still unfixed for Intrepid.

Newly installed Intrepid:

Edit connections->IPv4 settings->Automatic address only->I put my DNS
servers.

DNS servers are reverted to old settings on next boot. So no, even
though NM allows you to set the DNS servers, it doesn't obey them.

They are about two totally different issues. The GNOME bug is about
whether to display the application RTL or LTR based on what exists.

This bug is an interface bug and affects dialogs already translated to
RTL languages.

+ the screenshot I attached is of GTK with 8.04, so it still exists.

OK - somehow screenshot 1 is accessible to me. Yup, that is the same bug
I'm referring to, and it is unrelated to the gnome bug linked to this
one.

As I said this one is about text being chopped off user interfaces (like
in your screenshot and mine).

The GNOME bug is about preventing interfaces from going RTL if no
translations exist.

The GNOME one has apparently been solved.

But this one has not, and it is pretty serious, as you've just noticed
with a lot of other users.

[Bug 188907] Re: Lock GNOME upstream translations

2008-02-04 Thread Djihed
+1 from the Arabic team.

Danilo, it seems to me that, in part, you are trying to solve a
technical problem via a social solution.

For some of us with stretched resources, there is simply too much
overhead to try and coordinate with so many distributions, ubuntu being
only just one. I don't like the idea of pushing some work (be it even
communication) over upstream coordinators.

You're referring to many ways of partial solutions to some of the points
addressed in the report. Most of which involve us fiddling with
Rosetta/Launchpad. I do understand the need for Canonical to push LP and
tools forward, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the coordinators
time.

While the "communication" route can be a temporary solution (in the same
sense as a hack in code), finer control over locking translations
should be the way to go. E.g . Ubuntu wants some strings to be
"creatively translated" ? fine, mark those for translations, but lock
the rest and let me forget it about it.

I'm glad I see some (albeit unclear) intention in having that, but I'm
not quite sure.

I will also respond in particular to this:

"Since we can't accept the simple solution of disallowing Ubuntu
translations through Launchpad (which is basically what you are
suggesting), we are looking at other options of improving experience for
both Launchpad and upstream translators."

Why you want to mark already translated strings coming from upstream for
translation again in Ubuntu, I will never understand.

I think you seriously need to re-evaluate whether this is really
important for Rosetta, and whether it is worth the headache for us
upstream translators.

[Bug 109721] Feisty upgrade broke a working dual monitor setup.

2007-04-24 Thread Djihed
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to Feisty from Edgy. Overall went smoothly except that it broke my
dual monitor setup.
my xorg.conf was working fine. I'm not sure if the new kernel modules and the
new nvidia-glx install changed it, but it is not working now. It was working
fine under Edgy.

Both monitors are 19 inch LCD's, 6600GT card.

Here is my xorg.conf:

X log is attached.

ii nvidia-glx 1.0.9631+2.6.20.5-15.20 NVIDIA binary XFree86

Thanks for looking into this. Let me know if you need any more info.

For the record, X runs, it just won't use both monitors, only the
primary one.

[Bug 109914] Epiphany extensions are not using the localised strings

2007-04-25 Thread Djihed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-extensions

Arabic has a complete translation for both epiphany and epiphany
extensions.

When starting epiphany with the Arabic locale, the interface is in
Arabic, but the extensions still use the original English text. This
behaviour does not happen in the extension list.

Steps to reproduce:
Install epiphany and epiphany-extensions.
Install the arabic language packs.
LANGUAGE=ar epiphany
Enable the "page information" extension (you might want to do that in english
first).
Start epiphany and go to View (third option from the left), and see "Page
Information" in english.

The same thing happens for Spanish and French.

[Bug 76760] How are the lang packs created

2006-12-21 Thread Djihed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-gnome-ar-base

When translating Gnome applications, we sometimes need to test them live
to see if they are appropriate, if the space is sufficiany and if they
don't break right to left.

I know that one can compile the .po files and put them in LC_MESSAGES,
but some .po's are compiled together, some into unusual names, etc.

Ideally, from a set of gnome .po files, i would like to be able to
create the a set of working .mo files, and even further to create a
local language-pack-gnome-ar-base.

I'm not sure how that package is built in detail.

Any tips are welcome.

Khaled - this should be fixed upstream. The number should be put in

[Bug 269379] Re: arabic translations cause a crash

2009-11-24 Thread Djihed
Ultimately this should be fixed in Python's support of gettext.

A mis-formatted translated string shouldn't cause the application to
crash - I can think of many ways to mess up the user's applications by
putting such strings in a declared directory. All I need is a few files
and an environment variable.

These are valid in C, BTW.

PS. Khaled: note these strings please.
