Mark,
I concur strongly with Grendel. AMD processors work very well. I've been
using an Athlon 750 with RH 6.2 for over a year, and have patched and built
kernels many times with great luck. I currently run 2.2.16 with Win4Lin &
1394 patches. I've never seen a problem.
I'm using an Abit KA7 motherboard.
Regards,
Mark Knecht

AMD works fine on RH boxes. I prefer AMD Athlons/Durons because you get
better performance than the equivalent Wintel processors for far less
money. Which is a good thing in anyones equations, so Mark go ahead and by
a Athlon, you wont regret it it, I was perhaps one of the first people on
this list using a Athlon 500 nearly 1.5 years back, and still the Athlon
box has stood the test of time, I have found no incompatibilities
whatsoever with Any of the linux kernels 2.2.13 onwards and the 2.4
kernels with regard to Athlons.
The AMD Athlons and Durons are kiler processors that thrash equivalent and
more exspensively priced Wintel processors by a long way, just have a look
at the benchmarks and see for yourself, so by all means buy athlon with A
good motherboard (Asus is a good motherboard) and enjoy.
Best Wishes,
Grendel
