Before I did that I would use the "--setperms" option with rpm. Something
like:
rpm --setperms `rpm -qa`
might do it. I've never done this myself, so caveat emptor, but this is much
less work than reinstalling and getting your configuration back to what you
want.
Oh, and be sure to change the root password, eh?
