Of course it's possible to blow away the whole OS but it would be dumb to do that, unnecessary. Just call Apple Support and have them walk you through overriding and resetting the keychain password. I know I've had to do it at some time or another, but I can't remember the details just at the moment.
If you don't have anything in your account just yet, one way to fix the problem is to create another administrator account, log out of your present one, log into the new one, and delete the old account. It's very, VERY rarely necessary to wipe a disk and start over with OS X.
