So be it, I could get by with buying one new lens if I bought a DSLR. If Pentax make their lenses without the aperture ring I'm looking for Sigma EX or Tamron XR Di. The Sigma EX 15-30mm still has the aperture ring in Pentax AF and I'm not sure about the Sigma EX 12-24, maybe. What's more they're full frame lenses and will work on my film bodies......Pentax lose sales!
John, a few points: perhaps they are investing in new sales going down the small but optically sound route; Godders is a prime example. Don't count on the 3P lenses coming out with aperture rings forever. And never say never ;-). In this case we are at the mercy of external factors (I don't care, as there is nothing I can do about it and I don't care about the predictions either, but will there be film available in x years' time? Things are still looking good in the UK, I am pleased to say).
I am as disappointed as you are, but for us there are always our existing lenses. Not sure how much one can improve on the A50/2.8, or the FA50/1.7 for my kind of photos (to name but a few). But the fact of the matter is that I am not going near the 70/80-200/2.8s because of their weight, but Pentax may supply a manageable, affordable lens of equivalent FL for the digis, and the loss of the ring contributes to that package.
