Because they are not necessary.

No it's cost cutting, they're necessary if you wish to use your new lenses on
the MX, KX and numerous others. I won't buy a lens without an aperture
ring....Period!

If..... Since the great majority of no-ring lenses are designed for a smaller image circle than 35mm requires, you won't be using them anyway.

And what's wrong with cost-cutting? If you want to pay more for your cameras, just send a donation to Pentax.
