William Robb and Cotty are right, regarding my concern.
I want to be able to upgrade my camera body and have it work with legacy
lenses AND have a large selection of new lenses available.
My concerns with Pentax are:
1. They are slow to market.
2. Their selection of new digital bodies is, to date, two. The second, in
many ways, a step down, not a step up.
3. Lenses appear to being discontinued, with very few new ones being made
available.
4. Pentax has very underpowered marketing.
5. I suspect most consumers doing research into the DSLR market are not
going to buy Pentax for some of the above reasons, further eroding Pentax
market share.
6. Overall net loss for Pentax Imaging Group.
7. Now the takeover rumors.
My biggest concern is I'm afraid of investing in a dead-end system.

On 25/5/05, keithw, discombobulated, unleashed:
>Advertising hype to buy a new model is merely a fenzied push to get one
>dissatisfied with what they presently have! Not that the current model
>is in ANY way inferior, but soon the owners believe it is, and wonder
>how the hell they were ever talked into such a piece of crap body!
I think what Tom is aiming at is having a path to more upmarket models.
Like, if you buy into a carmaker that has economy and midrange cars, but
no high end sport model, you might consider switching brands for that
sport model. The fact that your brand has no high end sport model means
that you have no choice. With a brand that has economy, midrange, SUV,
top notch sport models, and even full-on luxury cars, at least you have a
choice.
I think car analogies are dangerous in any event. If I wanted a top
performing sports car, I would look at Aston Martin. If I wanted an SUV,
Land Rover. Horses for courses :-)
Cheers,
Cotty
