Yer right, of course about TCP/IP. I was on a roll, thinking about DLS and
routers. Thanks for the correction. The problems are that one has old school
(phoneNet)serial AppleTalk...the other doesn't. One has SCSI internal
drives...the other has IDE type drives. It woulddabeen nice If you could
have just pulled the drive out of the 7100 and put it in the B&W, but alas
no. Now... if you had an external SCSI CD burner for the 7100, Bob would be,
as they say, "Yer Uncle". There is of course, the NULL MODEM cable thing,
but why mess with that when you can ethernet your way to happiness.
To muddy up the situation even more....get a DLS pipe to the iNet, spend $40
and a router and make your own LAN. The 7100 is not strictly speaking able
to handle DSL. However, if your primary connection is through the B&W, then
the 7100 will be able to surf right along with it, with NO loss in DSL
speed. What's also cool about this is that if you already have printers,
scanners, etc., that use SCSI, you can use the 7100 as a print/scan
centre....or you can buy a SCSI card for the B&W...provided that it's not a
REV_01 motherboard. Ask around as to which SCSI cards have been successfully
used with that board.
Sorry... I'll shut up now,
David

No need to bother with TCP/IP, if using AppleShare (Chooser & Finder) to
transfer files. Only needed if using FTP.
But otherwise spot on. I missed the original message that said Paul had
a NuBus Ethernet card. No need to look for a AAUI adapter then.
As for the idea about a SCSI transfer, I'm pretty sure that won't work
between two computers (bus controllers), except for some PowerBooks that
had a "SCSI Disk Mode" where you could make the computer appear as an
external hard drive to another machine. That's not available on any
desktop Mac, that I'm aware of.
